2 episodes into Samurai Champloo, not super impressed so far. Maybe I just need to stop comparing it to Cowboy Bebop in my head

I think this is the biggest hang up people have with this show. I personally liked watching it. It's only 26 episodes so not too much to watch.

It is hard not to draw those comparisons because the art and stylings of the show suggest it. And it is marketed to Bebop fans, in a way.

That said, I quickly adjusted to it and decided I wasn't crazy about it on its own merits. It didn't fail, necessarily, but it didn't really succeed with me either.

Man has anyone else watched dbz kai? I just now watched it again and it's sad but you can tell where they edited things. Especially mr popo  he's not supposed to be blue! He blends in with the sky that way...excuse me if it sounds wrong but he's supposed to be black! Man I hate when you can tell that they edited it in such a way...that's not remastering it that's editing just for the heck of making it appropriate for the modern age which isn't right considering it's original. I think I'll stick to the originals(especially if there's a uncut version) *sigh*

Samurai Champloo didn't really do anything for me. It's not bad, but it's not stand-out either. It's just there.

Samurai Champloo had an epic baseball game. It was the first time I could even call a baseball game epic.

I like it more than Bebop, honestly. I wasn't crazy about it my first time through, but I've watched through a few times since then, and... man. I love it. I think it's way better than Bebop in terms of the music meshing with the aesthetics of the show (not saying Bebop wasn't good, what with the jazziness and the noir and the what-have-you; I just prefer Champloo's hip-hoppy vibe. Just feels more right to me).

I like samurai champloo but seeing it after bebop, it's really hard to get behind the show as much. The story related episodes are even more paper thin on champloo, and MOST of the filler type episodes are not nearly as good. It does have some really solid episodes. The baseball episode and the two part Elegy of Entrapment episodes come to mind. If every single one of these episodes were this strong, I would have enjoyed more. It's certainly not a bad show by any means, I just feel it falls short compared to bebop. Then again what show doesn't. Keep watching because it will pick up and you will enjoy it.

^I'll stick with it. So I can at least have an opinion on it if nothing else. And it's not like it's a big time commitment anyway since it's just one season.

Just made it to season 2 of Hunter x Hunter (2011 reboot). I'm having a lot of fun with this show - interesting characters, fun plotline. Interested to see how this season goes, as the party's split up. I feel like I'm watching an Indiana Jones movie that was directed by Miyazaki.
