Playing mostly shmup`s last two months so the nearest thing I have played to a platformer is the isometric game Alien 8,not the usual ZX Spectrum version but the BBC model B version lol, just to look at the differences between thw two really.

Anyone who likes platformers and looks back fondly on the NES-era of games, should check out Shovel Knight. Super-tight platforming, with great, catchy 8-bit music. Definitely inspired by Zelda II, SMB3, Ducktales, Mega Man, and maybe a little Metroid or Castlevania.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Yeah, we were all singing Shovel Knight's praises over on its own thread. Definitely a must have for any 2D platforming fan.
I've started playing through the Go Go Ackman! trilogy. Really silly and fun. Nothing about it is totally outstanding so far but it's very solid.
I first discovered them years and years ago when emulators were just becoming a thing and didn't really play it for long so I'm going back and playing through.

Having seen the copious amounts of online hate for Metroid Other M, i had relegated it to the not-to-do list, but i recently picked it up on a whim, and have been pleasantly surprised. Shitty characterisation of Samus at this early stage notwithstanding, i'm finding a lot to actually like here. Also, a weird and random thing, but i love Samus's running animation. Gameplay isn't bad too, from what i've played so far.

Don't believe random people crying on the internet. Metroid: Other M is a fun (mostly) well-designed game. (I hated the hidden object sections, but I very much enjoyed the rest of the game.)dust_hound wrote:Having seen the copious amounts of online hate for Metroid Other M, i had relegated it to the not-to-do list, but i recently picked it up on a whim, and have been pleasantly surprised. Also, if you beat the game, be sure to go back and "complete" it. The final, hidden boss is the best in the game (which is saying something because the other boss fights are pretty awesome).

Hey I'm not random
.
I seriously couldn't finish it. Maybe it's not a bad game but whatever it is, it wasn't for me.

I know. You are an intelligent person, and despite your dislike for the game, I very much doubt you contributed to the "OMG!!!1!! WOrst METoird GAM EVAA!!!" hate that it received from random internet trolls who, more likely than not, never actually completed the game.Gunstar Green wrote:Hey I'm not random.

Horses for courses, i reckon.
I've been a Metroid fan since Super Metroid, and though i count Fusion and Prime as my favourites, Other M has definitely grabbed my attention like not many games i have played recently. Not sure why, since i definitely don't like Samus's character so far (about 3 hours in), but the actual gameplay itself i'm really enjoying.
In my pile of games that i have atm, i've got Sin and Punishment 2, Skyward Sword, Red Steel 2, Dead Space Extraction, Resi 0, Resi 4, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros, and yet all i'm down to play for now is Other M, strangely.
