As the title says. I've done a lot of Googling, and tried a lot of things. Any game I try to download stops within seconds and says "An error occurred while updating [game title] ()" whereas the "()" would usually say which error you got. I can hit Play and it will download another second or two and do the same thing.
I've tried changing my download region multiple times. I've tried deleted the .blob file. I've tried deleting everything other than SteamApps folder and Steam.exe. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam. Tried opening ports on my router. Tried taking my router out and plugging straight into the modem.
It's not an issue w/ downloading as I can download other stuff just fine. Just can't download thru Steam and it's really driving me nuts as I've spent a few hours over a few nights dealing w/ it after coming to the conclusion that it's not just the Steam servers being busy.
I haven't been able to download any Steam games in a week

In cases like this, it helps if you try to narrow down the problem.
Does the same computer download on a different network? Can another computer download on your network?
It could be that your ISP is possibly blocking connections from Steam's servers, or maybe something entirely different. I'd try one (or both) of the things I suggested and go from there.

Yeah, it isn't the servers. I've downloaded several things since the sale ok when you first mentioned the issue. As Yoshi said, try downloading somewhere else if possible. If you have a laptop, see if you can redownload some small game at a coffee shop or take your PC to a friend's place and see if it works there, especially if they have different internet.

taking my gaming PC to somewhere else is easier said that done. I understand it'll be easier to diagnose, but if that wasn't an option what would you guys do short of pulling hair out and kicking chairs?

Try downloading through a proxy? Or connect through a cell phone's network to test?noiseredux wrote:taking my gaming PC to somewhere else is easier said that done. I would try installing steam on another pc on your network (assuming you have more then one) That way you can see if it's something to do with your network or your specific computer. Even if the other computer can't support the games it should still be able to download them at least.

Re: I haven't been able to download any Steam games in a wee
update: hooked up my laptop and registered my Steam acct. Am downloading games no problem (on wifi!). So.... this is not a network or ISP issue, but some kind of hardware issue on my PC it seems? Plz help.
Re: I haven't been able to download any Steam games in a wee
yup, a pc issue. since you can download other things fine on that pc it must be some kind of firewall/block of steam in software or the OS or somethingnoiseredux wrote:update: hooked up my laptop and registered my Steam acct.
