Evo afterthoughts:

BB:CP finals were hype. Garireo's comeback was quite an exciting thing to behold, and I don't even play that game. Plus, that Top 8 lineup was a beautifully weird group of folks.

Nice to see JWong win Marvel with that unique team of his over plasma spam Chris G (although I'd rather watch that than FChamp runaway lameout tactics). Game is still ass though.

Best for me was Luffy's tear through the loser's bracket all the way to USF4 Champion--pretty amazing to watch. Masterful play. Extremely entertaining and almost made me want to learn Rose.

Everything else was MEH. Tried to watch KOF, but the commentary was so awfully boring that I couldn't sit through it. Smash was okay, but it needs a rule change stat. 8 minutes and 4 stocks is way too damn long per game. Prog retiring from active commentary was pretty emotional though. KI still looks stupid even at "high-level play." Didn't see TTT2 or Injustice. NLBC vs WNF was a massacre and kinda painful to watch. East Coast, where you at?

Vega movie was pretty dark and cool, although the people who worked on costuming that should never be allowed near a film again.

Also, all Evo attendees should be quarantined due to whatever outbreak Marn was trying to spread.

I just happened to see a random video on the Retroware scroll - never knew about these Trio SEGA Adapters. I'm actually motivated to set up my Gen2-SegaCD2-32X and leave it perm out. $28.99 is doable.

Anybody know a good place to get new Xbox 360 boxes? Like just the cases?

I bought a ton of games from GameStop and as I'm sure you all know, the games themselves are alright as are the sleeves but the cases are all trashed out.

I picked up a few on ebay a while back; one of my 360 cases shattered pretty badly.

Not "brand new", but they're good condition salvaged cases (as far as I know):

It's also much cheaper than buying garbage games and cannibalizing them for their case.

stop talking those matches were some of the best ever and the rules are perfect, they don't encourage camping the timer because of the wait

Have one. It's pretty slick.

A guy named The.Golden.Axe makes them on Atariage as well. Not quite as slick-looking (he uses Gamecube adapters with 3 plugs coming off it, rather than the daisy-chained look that the Retro Game Cave one uses), but still works awesome. Dude also does an Atari Jag/JagCD combo adapter that's awesome (can you tell I hate wall warts?)
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

I understand the point of the timer perfectly well; it just doesn't seem to have the effect you're stating it does. Drop the stocks to three, drop the timer to 6, and more aggressive play will result. I am also aware of the nature of the Y.Link vs Puff matchup we saw twice and how it takes forever, but my point still stands.

Probably the sickest match was the one where Axe 4-stocked Silent Wolf in under a minute. Grand Finals was also better than meh; I'll give you that.

Also, not seeing an Ice Climbers infinite was a bummer. That tech is so dirty. Although the dude that was playing them seemed like he was not all there, so I don't blame him.

I didn't catch much of EVO this year. Best stuff I saw was the Blazblue finals which were amazing and the Super Street Fighter 2 invitational with hilariously broken Claw tech.

Glad Louffy won Ultra with his Rose. It's a good win for Europe and a good win for having a gameplan and sticking to it. Also good to see a top eight with a good diversity of characters being used. Snake Eyes' Zangeif was something else. I couldn't dream of being that technically proficient and on a pad? Madness.

Shame the same couldn't be said about Marvel which I thought was dull. It's getting clogged up with Morri/Doom teams and Vergil anchors. Even Apologyman's team with Super-Skrull, Firebrand and Doom was a variation on the projectile spam tactics of ChrisG. Kudos to Justin Wong though. He didn't really bust out some crazy new stuff or play a left field team, he just stuck to his guns and didn't fuck up. Like Germany in the world cup he has known for a while he's been on to a good thing and just kept plugging away.

I don't watch Smash as it gives me a headache. I get why people enjoy it and want it at the tournament. For me though, the way it's played at EVO is so far removed from what Nintendo designed the game to be it just bores me. Sorry. :(

Did I miss anything good in the Killer Instinct, Injustice or King of Fighters match ups?
