Yeah Lunar rules but does feel somewhat generic. Magical kids... saving the world... funny stuff happens... etc. It doesn't feel as original or fleshed out as Chrono Trigger.

I do remember Lunar 1 & 2 being the most blatant and obvious "anime games" released at the time though. Which was awesome. Once Working Designs hit the scene we stopped seeing the "Westernized" box art censoring and all that crap.

That's about pretty spot on for the lunar series haha. It does have that "feel good" vibe about it, as it doesn't take itself too seriously and is just a great game

Lunar: eternal blue would be one game I would hate to get rid of in my collection.

I think Grandia (JPN, Saturn anyway) is a better RPG than Final Fantasy VII in every way that counts. Characters are more likeable, setting is less confusing, and the story is far less unnecessarily convoluted. Also, the 3D and texturing is pretty well done and the battle system is so much more interesting than FFVII.

Why the Saturn version? I still need to try that one out.

Didn't Lunar have bath scenes? Anime-fied is right haha... I recall liking them a lot when I took interest in naughty anime back in the day.

I'd say that FFVII is probably the second-best Final Fantasy game. However, the gulf between it and part VI (the best) is absolutely enormous.

I'd agree with the Grandia comments too. Panzer Dragoon Saga and Ogre Battle 64 are other 5th gen JRPGs superior to FFVII.

That surprises me. I thought FFIV and V would be more your style.

I'd say from what I've played of Panzer Dragoon Saga it certainly has the more interesting and multifaceted battle system between it and FFVII. One day I shall have a complete copy!

I always liked the way Phantasy Star IV told its story compared to other contemporary RPGs. Lots of little anime stills instead of just portraits and limited sprite animation. It really brought the characters to life.

It blew my mind when it came out. I found it to be the most amazing thing ever. It drives me mad that people do not reference Phantasy Star IV when they talk about great RPGs. All they do is talk Final Fantasy, Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. Grumble grumble!

And Panzer Dragoon Saga. LOTS of people exalt PDS.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
