WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
The controller is my biggest issue. It works well enough, and the turbo buttons are nice. I also like having save state mapped to a button on it. For those who do not know, save state is mapped to the little button on the upper left.
I just wish they would have made it more in the shape of a SNES controller. It is a minor bitch and maybe later they can make one or some other wireless controller may be compatible. The button mapping overall is what compels me to use it though.
With all those people out there modding and trying to get the best signal out of their old console this thing is the answer to that.
Now, where is that Game Gear and N64 support?????? Yes, there is enough buttons on that thing to be use as an N64 controller.

Picked up a English translated version of Mother 3 and currently playing it on the R5. Its so nice to have it on a big screen and its looks fantastic. Still playing the hell out of this thing on a regular basis!

I'm curious though, because it will boot some of the Super Game Boy games in their enhanced mode which is something the GBA doesn't do so it has to be emulating both GBA and Super Game Boy at least. Would there be a way to make Road Rash use the Super Game Boy side of the emulator?Tanooki wrote:I'm not sure if I should bring up Road Rash or not considering it may do more damage than any good. If the setup they've created for the GBA is that damn accurate that it tanks on the handful of bad games the real GBA will choke with too I consider that a good thing.
It's not the only Game Boy game that doesn't work with the GBA but I'm having trouble finding a list at the moment. It might be something to make Hyperkin aware of anyway.
I figured you'd dig it especially after praising Sonic's Genesis Collection. The games are really bright and beautiful on it. I agree the filters are totally unnecessary.dsheinem wrote:Well, I just gave it some time with Crisis Force (FC) and Contra (NES) and WOW!

This little device may do wonders for my cart-based backlog. I am amazed by how great the picture looks and how amazing the games sound. I tried a few filters but, really, not sure why you wouldn't just want to use the default. I am not going to throw everything I have at it to see what it can handle, but I may try an SMS game later with the attachment for fun. Very, very impressed.
I don't like the controller, the firmware upgrade is a bit of a convoluted process, and the cart fits are tight...but these are really VERY minor niggles. Great system, and for someone like me who has stayed away from emulation/hooking up a PC to the the big screen for a long time, the ability to play my own carts (even via a dumped ROM) is very cool.

I remember there was a list too, Tarzan GBC is one of them that fruitcakes out but I can't remember how. I think it was a screaming audio issue. I believe I remember a thread over at digital press forums covers some of those games but I know I had seen a list somewhere else before with a little detail.

Truth, and Dave likes it. I think we're good nowTanooki wrote:For all the random tight starfished collectors out there whining about it, the system must be used a bit to be really believed.
But yes, the EEPROM saves being restored makes it the perfect console for me. Xexyz looks great, as do all my GBA games.

1.5 firmware is out.
Changes in this release include:
Writing GBA EEPROM saves back to the cartridge is now supported
Fixed corrupt text in GBA Phantasy Star Collection
Added NES mappers 47, 159
Fixed NES Action 52
Fixed SNES Megaman X/Rockman X
Fixed Genesis American Gladiators
The MODE button on Genesis 6-button controllers is now supported
START/SELECT may now be configured via the button mapping
SMS controller support was causing problems with some units, so this feature has been disabled for now
Miscellaneous other compatibility fixes

Someone on their Facebook said to try the Konami code (U U D D L R L R B A) on the Retron 5 menu.....
I can confirm that in addition to the sad face one receives when putting in Shaq Fu or Deadly Towers, that Hyperkin does continue to have a sense of humor
Played Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA) tonight with the "terrible" wireless controller that everyone hates -- looks great and no input lag. I was more into this at the start for the GBA quite honestly, only because I cleaned all those games (and no death grip in the GBA slot) -- I'll get more into the NES and SNES when I get a chance to clean about 80 more games

Well that was cute.
I didn't know about the Shaq Fu thing either.

I can't get to the R5 for the time being, what does that Konami code end up doing?
So we got 2 games that prank you for trying to load. If you leave the system on too long idling it pops a box up where yes or no really doesn't matter due to the context as it's more of a wake up prank.

I have nothing of major value to add to the conversation, but can I just say I absolutely love this machine and it's completely reignited my love for collecting cartridges and playing with original controllers?
There is still the slightest hint of input lag (not the system's fault, just inherent in all HDTV's), but I'm polishing up my PunchOut!! skills, and as soon as I defeat Tyson on this machine (not possible on my hacked Wii due to input lag, so I haven't attempted for 7+ years) I will be a true, true, believer that I finally have my replacement for my long retired CRT+original consoles jungle of wires.
