Sega CD Model 2 Disc Cover Issues

Post by Capaneus »

Most of the repair guides I have seen cover the actual lens or electronics of the Sega CD unit, but my issue is that if I turn it on with a CD in it, it makes a really load sound as the disc spins up, and then it fails to read. If I put a heavy book on top, it actually operates perfectly and quietly. Anyone experience this, and what's a good way to permanently fix it?

Maybe the latch isn't holding the lid down as far as it should. Is the little clip damaged?

If you look inside the bottom of the lid, there's the platter that weighs down the disc on the spindle. It is just kind of loose and handing there when open, that's likely what's scraping if the lid isn't far enough down that the disc is lifting it off the rest points.

are the 3 ovals in the game gear Red green and blue or are they white? If they are white it is the newer model.
