Just wrapped up watching the Dirty Pair and Utena over the weekend. My Mazinger Z box set and bakemonogatari& Nisemonogatari box sets should be coming in this week. Never seen them so I'm pretty pumped. On a side note, anyone else feel like they are getting screwed when they order blu rays from Aniplex USA? I'm no stranger to spending a good penny on anime, When funimation and diskotek are releasing 40$ complete season box sets. it's a little hard to swallow 140$ for twelve episodes.

It's better than $60 for 2 episodes on a disc, which is about what Japanese DVD buyers were paying 10 years ago for series.johnny turbo wrote:Just wrapped up watching the Dirty Pair and Utena over the weekend. Trigun is one of those shows that I enjoyed but the manga was a lot more satisfying. Definitely give it a look if you get the chance.SNESdrunk wrote:Just finished Trigun the other day. Other than the fact that the two insurance agents are kinda useless beyond comedic purposes yet the story insists they stick around (my g/f tells me the love interest stuff wasn't in the manga), it was very good. The whole show runs the gamut of emotions.

Should I watch "The vision of Escaflowne" before watching the movie? I just happened to spot the movie at goodwill and didn't even know it was based on a tv show

The movie is basically a gritty, really weird alternate retelling of the anime.darsparx wrote:Should I watch "The vision of Escaflowne" before watching the movie? I just happened to spot the movie at goodwill and didn't even know it was based on a tv show
It's like the TV show is the cartoon origin story of Superman, and then the movie is Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Definitely the anime. Like the above post said the movie is its own thing and it's not nearly as good.
The whole setting is sort of changed as well. The medieval European fantasy feel is totally lost in the movie which is more Asian inspired.

Finished Knights of Sidonia overall it was okay. Definately needs another season or two to flesh it out. Seemed like a lot of information was purposely left out and that made the whole situation a little confusing.
One thing that really bugged me after a while was they live in a society where there is a lot of genetic experimentation going on and yet the characters that are modified seem to be random. I mean we have a Animal Hybrid, Clones, Immortals, Nongender humans, etc.and yet there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why these modifications were done to a hanful of people in the cast
. At first some of the stuff like humans that can swap sexes at a given point for breeding made sense but you get 2-3 episodes in and realize there is only one transgender person on the show and they can just clone everybody anyways
.

I admit I stopped liking Trigun once it got serious
That opening scene is still hilarious, though.
