I do actually, but I don't use it. I have enough of my gaming stuff out in the open, without having a controller on display 24/7 as well.

My control pad sits on top of my Wii U when not being used.

Again I revert to my earlier comment "Saying "You can charge it" hardly makes its short battery life any better".

Ease of use with charging is not changing the fact it has a short battery life.

I remember hearing about Japan getting a battery with longer life. Did that ever happen?

Yeah and it was also available on Nintendo's NA store. I bought one since at the time I was playing MH3U for at least 3 hours straight and charging it got annoying fast.

EDIT: Looking for it now on their store... I don't see it anymore. Just the standard battery.

I'm curious as to how they let this poor battery life slide. Surely someone said in the development process "You know guys, the battery life kind of blows".

I'm sure they were more interested in saving money than installing an adequate battery.

What's odd is that the battery in the Pro controller lasts forever and yet the basic battery for the gamepad lasts 4 hours. =[

I imported the upgraded battery and while it's worth it, I only ever ran my gamepad dead twice beforehand so I probably could have made due without it.

I don't know how people can be confused over how the battery life of the gamepad isn't so long. A PSP Vita lasts, what...about 4-5 hours? The Wii U Gamepad lasts 3-5 hours. Consider the screen. It isn't easy keeping that enormous screen running. If you were able to finagle yourself one of the extended batteries, it supposedly increases the battery life to 8 hours.

I'm happy with what I've got and it has only ever needed charging once when I first got it playing ZombieU obsessively.

Also, a lot of us judge the battery life on when the little charge light comes on, but there is still a very substantial life after that.

I think a lot of it has to do with the distinction that one is primarily a controller while the 3DS/Vita are dedicated machines in their own right.

I don't see why Nintendo can't just have the gamepads ship with the larger batteries in whatever upcoming bundles they have.

And yes, the extended battery gets over 8hours of life.

Wii U Review Update: 20 Months Later

I enjoyed this article. It shows that games not hardware (maybe the off-tv mode) is what makes a console worth the money or not.

What's the homebrew scene like? Have they hacked it to run emulators yet?
