Well, I got past that silly mini-game pretty quick... Don't know how I did it though haha
I also got past two more dungeons... not much to say on those as they went pretty quick. (but I wish they didn't change swimming to tapping on the d-pad... hurts my thumb a lot more :()

Oh but I think I have one more dungeon to go, then the final boss! :D

1. Double Dragon (NES)
2. Super Aleste (SNES)
3. Perfect Dark (N64)
4. Wave Race 64 (N64)
5. Shantae (GBC via 3DS VC)
6. Ristar (MD via Wii VC)
7. Bangai-O (DC)
8. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSP)
9. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)
10. Metal Gear Solid 2 (Vita)

Spent this morning playing through the last few levels of Bangai-O. I'd played through to stage 35 yesterday, so I only had 9 left. Most of them took quite a few attempts though.

The ;ast stage and boss in particular were incredibly unfair - the stage itself wasn't so bad, but it was pretty long and it's the type of game where a simple mistake can cause you to have to restart. It took about 2 hours to beat this stage - the rest of the game all in took maybe 4-5. I was getting pretty pissed off at repeating the level over and over only to die in half a second against the final boss, I can tell you.

The game is a lot of fun, although I feel many of the mechanics have been improved on in it's DS successor. I quite like being able to switch between bouncing and homing shots, but the DS one let you switch any 2 of 4 guns (which could be combined together too) or 3 other melee and defensive weapons, plus allowed your super scattershot to be set with a different type of shot too, allowing more versatility. The controls feel smoother on DS too, and I missed being able to stop and aim on the DC version. The DS tends to have smaller more focused stages aswell, which I feel suit the gameplay better, as well as a lot more (over 200 to the DC's 44), plus custom stages, more enemy variety and more control options. Basically, the DS version did more, better.

However, that's not to detract from what is here - the game is fast paced and fun, with delightfully poorly translated and surreal story. Even with the nigh incomprehensible babbling going on it managed to make me laugh with a few of the things it said. Seeing the console slow down when more stuff is on screen (especially if you can fire off multiple max shots of 400 missiles at once and cause the console to almost give up trying

Overall, the game is quirky and fun and worth picking up. It's not treasures best game, and it'snot even the best game in its own series, but it's very enjoyable and perfect for a quick blast.

1. Metroid Prime - GC
2. Resident Evil 2 - PS1
3. Earthbound - SNES
4. Crash Bandicoot - PS1 - Complete
5. X-men Vs. Street Fighter - Saturn - Complete

6. Wonder Boy in Monster World - Genesis
7. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PS1
8. Wave Race 64 - N64 - Complete
9. Ico - PS2 - Complete
10.Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - SNES - Complete

Well, I've finished Ico.

I wish I could say I was as blown away by this game as most people, but I just wasn't.

I appreciate the solitude, and the grand scale, the great music (little as there was) and the sheer beauty of it all.

But I just wasn't engaged. I spent the majority of the game essentially trudging through it, often bored by the puzzles and irritated by the clunky combat and controls.

It wasn't until near the end, when you finally open the Main Gate and all of the events that occur after, that I became really interested in what was happening.

So I'm kind of in the middle here. I guess I can say that I appreciate Ico for what it is, but I don't particularly like it.

Long story short: Yeah okay, but Shadow of the Colossus is better.

Related: I recently picked up the Ico novel, which I knew existed, but I was not aware that it had been translated into English. I intend to read it soon, and I hope it grabs me more than the game did.

1. LoZ: Ocarina of Time (Wii VC)
2. Ico (PS2)
3. Silent Hill (PS1)
4. Super Mario 64 (Wii VC)
5. LoZ: Oracle of Ages (3DS VC)
6. Half-Life (Steam)
7. Super Punch-Out!! (Wii VC)
8. Ys I + II (Steam)
9. Gunstar Heroes (Steam)
10. Phantasy Star (GEN)

Yay finally beat Oracle of Ages :D

I think I enjoyed it overall (other than the mini-games and those tiny dungeon maps...) but I think my enjoyment of it would of greatly suffered if I had not played it with the ability to use save states. I had a lot of trouble getting through certain areas, and dieing in a dungeon sends you back to the beginning. It's not so bad when you beat the mid-boss and get a warp to the middle of the dungeon, but before then... you better not die cause ugh. And since I had trouble with the combat... I kind of abused the save states a bit. I don't care at all though, since I mostly liked doing the puzzles. :) Also really liked the music and the final boss. Only other thing of note is that I hate the mini games but I said that already so I won't go over it again ha.

So... not my favourite Zelda, but still glad I played it.

For my next game... I'm thinking Ys :3

I've been making progress in Symphony of the Night. Just killed Olrox and I'm level twenty something (forgot to check before I turned it off).

I'm not anymore enthused than I've been on previous attempts to beat this game. I can at least say that I'm now further in than I've ever reached on said attempts.

If I keep up my current pace I think I'll be able to finish it with good time.

I didn't know you were playing that too. What version? Seems to be popular this year.

I think I was done in around 15 hours.

Yep.

Playing the XBLA version, which as far as I know is unchanged from the original PS1.

Which I like, since the cheeseball voices are pretty fun (the way the librarian says Thank You amuses me), and I understand the dialogue was rerecorded for the PSP version.
