You could say that about most if not al JRPGs though, right? I always found it a genre that you just have to "click" with. Even if it's a game by game basis. For example I never could get into Chrono Trigger. I got why people liked it, but it just didn't interest me. Robotrek I just found out how to plow through it and I found the setting interesting and funny, so I just fell in love with it.

And mate if you don't enjoy it just quit, there's no point in pushing yourself to finish a game you don't like.

No. The best JRPGs from that era are smooth streamlined experiences. Robotrek is a tedious slog.

Do you like it better than the other Quintet games?

Maybe, but for example I wouldn't call FF7 (a wildly revered game) smooth. And I just never found Robotrek a slog, I was having too much fun with it. I guess to its his own, right?

Well yeah, but I've only played Illusion of Gaia so that wouldn't be a fair comparison.

Well when I said "from the era" I was thinking of other 16 bit games.

But yeah, there's nothing wrong with liking Robotrek. I just suspect that a lot of folks don't.

On the other hand I enjoy The 7th Saga, Hydlide, Lagoon, Quest 64, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, and Beyond the Beyond. So my taste may be considered questionable by many.

Its price on ebay says otherwise  . And if peopel are just buying it cause it's an SNES RPG thus will go up in price, it just makes me mad cause real fans should buy the games (my mentality with collecting is that I only keep the games I really like, and sell/pass off/donate the other games, even if they have high value).

Also this guy likes it too so :P

Yuck, Quest 64 is another unplayable mess with an encounter rate that makes me want to drive the cartridge through the nearest cement wall...I like FFMQ and BtB though

Started and beat Zone of the Enders on PS2 today, kinda surprised at what a dark story the game has. I thought it was a bit tedious, and the voice acting was laughable, but it was decent for a PS2 launch title back in the day. I ordered the sequel for like twelve bucks from Ebay and I'm curious to see how the story will continue.

it wasn't a launch title, it came out about 4-5 months after. I actually prefer the first to the second - they were pretty awesome back in the day.

There are about 1000 copies of the Zone of the Enders HD collection at Best Buy for $14.99 each. Been thinking about picking one up, but $14.99 is still about $10 more than I typically like to pay for a game. I know these are Hideo Kojima games..... Are they like Metal Gear at all? Because I don't like Metal Gear.

Well game quality and price don't always correlate... See Caltron 6 in 1, Action 52, etc.

That said, I do now own a copy of the game and I'm willing to give it another shot. I haven't played it in many years.

Just don't bother with ranged attacks. Mellee the shit out of those enemies. Also lots of HP is a must.
