Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
Anime tackles heavy subjects like rape? How, with squids?
Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
Funny you mention that because it seems like over time kids shows that had subtle adult humor have slowly had that taken out of them(I'm looking at you spongebob now that I'm older)SamuraiMegas wrote:Because cartoons dont cater to adult weeabos.
But yeah anime = 10x better than cartoons all the time it seems now(especially since this isn't the 60's so we can't have violence in cartoons like we did then

Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
I disagree, anime is not always better than cartoons. I would rather watch The Gargoyles than Love Hina anyday.
No violence in American animation since the 60s? Venture Bros, Superjail!, Dethklok, Robot Chicken, and many more come to mind.
Every anime isn't Trigun, and every American cartoon isn't some kids show with no depth. I know the picture is in jest, but it seems like people like to throw on blinders, and pretend that it is completely black and white, like all anime is good. Where is the depth and maturity in Full Metal Panic!? You think School Days is better than Adventure Time or Regular Show? No way, not even a close call imo.
(Not directed at you darspa, just seems like a common thing to see)

That's a 90's cartoon so that doesn't say much for modern onesdunpeal2064 wrote:I disagree, anime is not always better than cartoons. I would rather watch The Gargoyles than Love Hina anyday.
Well I kinda meant modern kids cartoons. Since flintstones, jetsons and the sort ended up being for kids(or that's the way it seems) and it seems like that generation turned out alright(at least I try to convince myself of that while my dad acts goofy even nowNo violence in American animation since the 60s? It does seem common but then again most "cartoons" that come out now a days don't hold my interest very long and if they do I start to wonder 4-5 minutes in, "why the heck am I still watching this crap?". Not really interested in what happened to cartoons post 2007, there were a ton of great shows that came out and they all were killed off way before they should've been...(Not directed at you darspa, just seems like a common thing to see)

Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
Its sorta unfair to compare the entirety of anime to a very specific subgenre of American animation.
And, if you like School Days more than Adventure Time or Regular Show... then my hope for the future has diminished even further

Yeah, comparing the best anime versus the worst cartoons is a straw man argument. If I compared Batman: the Animated series versus One Piece, the results would go one way. If I compared Cowboy Bebop versus He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the results would be different.
In defense of modern superhero cartoons, I found Wolverine and the X-Men surprisingly good. I didn't expect much out of it. I was surprised that they actually made the character of Wolverine grow, change, and evolve more than he has since the '80s.

The newest Ninja Turtles series on Nickelodeon is also pretty impressive.

I'd rather watch most "kiddie comedy shows" over most of what anime fans tend to fawn over to be honest.

You named 4 awesome shows, so I'm not even sure where the results are supposed to fallsamsonlonghair wrote: If I compared Batman: the Animated series versus One Piece, the results would go one way.
