Do any online stores have these in stock currently? If so I'll consider buying another one and then cancelling my Amazon order.
Unfortunately your best bet is probably just to wait it out. Pretty much all the online retailers are out of stock and most sellers on the secondary market are price gouging.

Other than that keep looking at all the usual places for a decent price.

Go hastings has a listing on amazon for a new black unit at 153.98 shipped. Went to their site expecting the prices to be lower there but they are $232.98 for grays and $179.99 for blacks :P over there.

The unit on amazon isn't to much of a price hike over the MSRP if there is anyone that really wants one now.

I have never used anything other than official hardware before this. I suggest this thing to everyone. Get over it not being official.

Hoping for an N64 add on for it!!

Truth.

1.5 firmware is shaping up to be pretty good so far.

SOME changes --

Fixed corrupt text in GBA Phantasy Star Collection
Fixed NES mapper 159 games
Fixed SNES Megaman X/Rockman X
Fixed Genesis American Gladiators
The MODE button on Genesis 6-button controllers is now supported
START/SELECT may now be configured via the button mapping

I'm glad they're continuing to work hard to fix issues.

This game has a save bug, the original Phantasy Star occasionally crashes upon saving. So playing it with the benefit of R5 save states would be nice. Though I guess if I wanted to play Phantasy Star on the R5 I would just go with the SMS version.

ExedExes,

Did you mention you tested the Power Base Converter on the Retron 5? I don't remember you mentioning it or not in your initial review (I'll go back a few pages and re-read it if you did).

The reason I ask is that I'm not looking at some SMS games. Specifically Ninja Gaiden (I didn't even realize this was on SMS until yesterday = mind blown) and Double Dragon (co-op!!!).

Fixed Genesis American Gladiators
This is so random, I love it.

I mean, I get Mega Man X and the more popular games but good on whomever found that out.

OH THANK GOD!

I was on the fence about the system, but now that I know American Gladiators will work on it, I must have it!

I have not, but so far PBC users have reported that things are working well.

They fixed Top Gun (NES) with the last firmware, so if you were looking for that game too, there you go.

At least people are trying some of these far-out games, and they're fixing them too.

I'm pretty impressed that Hyperkin has gone out of its way to make sure that the power base converter works with the Retron5. Sega didn't even bother with the Genesis 2; Majesco didn't even bother with the Genesis 3. Hyperkin is doing it right.

Now Hyperkin, make the 32X work as a passthrough device so that the Retron5 can read the ROM data off of 32X cartridges. Obviously, the video mixer cable won't work, but it shouldn't need to. If you can effectively emulate Genesis, you can emulate 32X. Make it happen!
