Kids React to Old Technology (New! Teens react to NES)
Re: Kids React to Old Technology (New! Kids react to Gameboy
I love when one of the kids said its boring to play the gameboy.

That one kid near the end... "The gaming device is stupid. They can't sense peoples skin, you have to like press buttons to do everything."

I like the original Game Boy as much as the next guy (in fact it's the collection I'm most interested in building up these days) but let's be honest. Handheld gaming has come a LONG way.
I thought it was kind of funny when the older kid was saying how the Game Boy was probably revolutionary and top of the line back in its day since it actually purposely used outdated technology even when it was new.
You got to love the kids that appreciate the history or were surprised at how good it actually was.

It's a really old handheld. Not like there's going to be any really amazing games on it

I think a lot of the kids comparing it to the iPad instead of the 3DS is kind of telling. The handheld market is not changing in Nintendo's favor.

Yeah, I gave my 5 year old (as of today!) a GBA Advance to have as "his" a few months ago and we bought a half dozen games or more for it that he picked out. And…he likes it, but is always happy to give it up for the iPad or an iPhone. I'm glad he doesn't completely disregard it as I think he needs to work on his d/pad-button mashing skills, but the allure if iDevices is strong.Gunstar Green wrote:I think a lot of the kids comparing it to the iPad instead of the 3DS is kind of telling. That's so heartbreaking Dave. It could be a generational thing for sure, but there's something so significant about having actual buttons. I still struggle with games that lack tactile inputs. Buttons and sticks are awesome!
Re: Kids React to Old Technology (New! Kids react to Gameboy
Yeah I guess that's why I can't/won't game on a touch device long. Those games are nice and all but I like hitting the physical buttons...just doesn't give the same satisfaction when I hit the in game attack button versus a real button

Does he still think Star Wars is based on Angry Birds?dsheinem wrote:Yeah, I gave my 5 year old (as of today!) a GBA Advance to have as "his" a few months ago and we bought a half dozen games or more for it that he picked out. I honestly don't understand how anyone can prefer gaming on a touch device to one with actual buttons. Like, if nothing else, I would hate it when the screen inevitably get's covered in smudges and fingerprints. I don't think I have to explain why buttons are better for actual gameplay to this crowd. :/
