But introducing the bill to parliament, MP Vadim Dengin said "most Russians don't want their data to leave Russia for the United States, where it can be hacked and given to criminals".
"Our entire lives are stored over there," he said, adding that companies should build data centres within Russia.

Every time I see a news title referring to MPs I keep thinking the military police are involved.
But yes, the stated goal of the bill is not the actual goal of the bill (which is to muzzle social network sites). The stated goal is bullshit, because locality of the datacenter doesn't affect its accessibility to hackers (not to mention the number of Russian hackers out there). Locality really only matters if people are getting your data by getting physical access to the datacenter and mirroring the drives onto their own equipment.

Myself as well.MrPopo wrote:Every time I see a news title referring to MPs I keep thinking the military police are involved.
Quick story.
My Grandfather was an MP, stationed somewhere in Korea (I'm not sure where, but he did have a pet monkey which is neat) during WWII.
So! He hated it. Would have rather been in battle, as the GI's hated the MPs. Here's an example of exactly why.
The troops were ordered to clean their barracks, and to be prepared for a white glove inspection. The troops spent an entire day scrubbing the barracks from floor to ceiling with due diligence and elbow grease.
My Grandfather said everything in the barracks was scrubbed to a T. Except for one thing. An ashtray, as almost ever soldier smoked and were even rationed cigarettes. So his superior gave him instructions on how to proceed.
He commended his team for doing one of the best cleaning jobs he has ever witnessed. He then smashed the ashtray on the floor, and ordered them to once again clean the barracks.
In short, his job was to be a jerk.
And here he is:

That's why I'm laughing about this. Well that and the fact that Russians can't protect data for shit.MrPopo wrote: (not to mention the number of Russian hackers out there).

Nah. I get that from my Father.ZeroAX wrote:oh so that's where you get it fromLuke wrote: My Grandfather was an MP

My Grandfather always called me "Lukie", always treated me like a grown man even when I was a kid, and gave me his wedding ring months before he passed. He hated his military career.
Excuse my 2000's attire and half assed "beard", but this was the last time he and I met when he still was alive.

Even if I didn't know you came from a Germany family I'd be able to tell after that picture, you're like a walking stereotype

And my last name may as well be "German von Limbruger". You're right too, as when in a city I frequently get asked if I am of German heritage.ZeroAX wrote:Even if I didn't know you came from a Germany family I'd be able to tell after that picture, you're like a walking stereotype
"Lil sumtin" about the picture I posted...
My Father was playing the accordion, and my Uncle was playing the violin at the time. Oh what beautiful music they played and my grandfather was overwhelmed with the music, and the amount of family there.
It was the first and last time I would see him cry.
Me, being me, all I could do was celebrate the moment and place my arm around him in comfort and love and remind him to enjoy that exact moment.
Music and family. Powerful stuff.
And that picture isn't the best, but damned if you can't see the polarizing emotions.
