Thoughts:
I'm pretty happy to see Zuko. I like his conversation with Desna and Eska.

I smiled wide when I heard Grey DeLisle's voice.

I haven't made up my mind about Zaheer yet. I see that he's the new villain, but why? I haven't seen Zaheer commit any crimes (aside from prison break) or harm anyone (aside from prison guards) so why should I hate this villain? How will he be the foil to our hero, Korra?

Also, the Earth Queen is the most instantly hate-able new character I have ever seen. I hope she is the main villain of this season instead of Zaheer.
The Earth Queen is super hate-able but I imagine she's just going to be a minor enemy since they'll eventually be moving on from the Earth Kingdom. She also seems a bit too dumb to be main villain material. They like to make the big-bads at least somewhat relatable so hopefully Zaheer's backstory will be a good one.

I'm on season 2 episode 12. Korra is a bad avatar.

Well to be honest so was aang at the beginning and middle(especially because if I recall he had trouble water bending for the longest time or something) but he seemed to get good after that point. She doesn't really annoy me though and I really hope after this show ends that the series doesn't end, I'm really a fan of it since it's better than most junk shown on the kid channels XD

That's kinda the point, isn't it?

Aang was wise, but hadn't mastered all four elements. He usually tried to evade physical confrontations, but he was good at figuring out solutions to spiritual problems.

Korra is a great fighter, but can't wrap her head around spiritual matters. I think the producers have gone out of their way to intentionally make Korra unlike Aang. Wouldn't it be boring if Korra was just like Aang?

You're almost certainly right. Earth Queen will be a temporary nuisance. She's just so darn hate-able. She reminds me of Long Feng without the charisma.

Just got caught up on the series. This is getting more and more engaging. I'm glad I didn't give up on Korra earlier. She is gradually becoming a like-able character. In fact, a lot of characters are gradually becoming less obnoxious.
Image
We have seen grownup versions of two Last Airbender characters so far this season: Emperor Zuko (in the present), and Cheif Toph Beifong (via flashback). We also get to learn about the Beifong family.
Image
I like Su Beifong and all her over-achieving kids. Su has the same VA as Toph: Jessie Flower. One of Su's kids looks a lot like Skrillex. Huan is an avant garde artist who has been told he's brilliant, but actually makes terrible art. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Just watched episodes 12 and 13. Goddamn.
The series suddenly took a darker tone. And the ending, where wheelchair-bound Korra watches as Jinora surfaces as the new Airbending Master looking pretty much exactly like Aang, with the Air Nation now dedicated to roaming around and helping all nations, pretty much doing the same job the Avatar has...there's some subtext there.

But since when could Mako create lightning like Azula?
Book Four can't come fast enough.

I just watched the Book 3 finale. Wow. I was not expecting that.

Mako has been able to do this since the beginning of book one. Mako is shown bending lightning in an electrical power plant.
A possibly disturbing thought:
Am I the only one who thinks the finale had lots of implied rape imagery?
  • Zaheer carries Korra off on his shoulder.
  • Korra is bound in chains and covered in sweat.
  • The Red lotus force mercury (a foreign object) into Korra's body.
  • Korra experiences paranoid hallucinations - classic symptom of PTSD.
  • Korra lashes out against her attacker.

Ah, it's been so long since Book One that I've forgotten, I thought it was another "Hey, I suddenly discovered I can do this"-type of deal like with Bolin. Maybe Mako could've used that ability in the other fights they had against Team Zaheer...

I didn't see it that way, but I guess the creators could've had that in mind, yes. Most of the items on your list don't really scream rape explicitly, the hallucinations could've been a reaction to the mercury poisoning. That's where the phrase "Mad as a hatter" comes from, after all. Quick check of Wikipedia says that "19th-century hatters in Danbury, Connecticut, developed a condition known colloquially as the Danbury Shakes. The condition was characterized by slurred speech, tremors, stumbling, and, in extreme cases, hallucinations."
On a totally unrelated note, the new character Kuvira, who
saved Korra's father
in episode 12 was voiced by none other than Zelda Williams, the daughter of Robin Williams. That's some freaky timing right there.

I hear rumor that a Legend of Korra video game is coming.

Have there been any good avatar games? I know there's been more than one, but I'm skeptical of the quality of any game based on a nickelodeon property.
