Death Metal is the worst kind of metal.

[insert band name] has one good song.
I listened to their two most well known albums a few years ago. No random band deserves any more of a chance than that from me.

Stubborn is a positive trait to me. You can't insult me on that one.

Personally I can at least appreciate music that does nothing for me, from a technical standpoint that is, i've seen many death metal bands i've hated, but have come away from the gig wowed by a guitarists abillity, a certain solo, a particular beat-down or a set of amazing riffs. Still, theres little point in arguing this, you are clearly attempting to be inflammatory just for the sake of it and are tarnishing the entire genre of death metal (which itself encompases multiple sub-genres) with your limited experience.

And you are clearly trying to ignore everything I say, to give yourself someone to argue with. We're fucking agreeing on this. Knock it off. I said I was very impressed by a certain drummer.

You're just looking to for an argument. You need one of these places:

Wow, I can't believe this post is 3 pages long... It's ridiculous. I've heard death metal and techno and probably some other music put down in this post. Let's face it, all genres have groups with musical talent and groups that suck and couldn't possibly be listenable other than by those devoted to the genre. You have to give respect to all types of music and the only thing I really see Mozgus coming out and saying is death metal is dumb... but he respects artists for what they are. That's simple and this shit needs to end...

Oh and death metal does suck... as does most other metal.

*sigh* listen, as a Metal fan in general and Death Metal is my second favorite genre (Thrash being the first), there is one thing I hate about metalheads that they just simply can't just let go one man's opinion go. Like they would hate you because you messed with there Bread and Butter. Plus, they always expect to like the same music as them. Yes, he hates your kind of music, seriously just let it go, its just ONE PERSON, and his one opinion, and if he doesn't like it, than he doesn't like it.

I like In Flames, Mnemic, Threat Signal. I also like Deathstars but I don't know if they'd be considered death metal. They're more industrial.

Listen to their song "Cyanide" http://www.myspace.com/deathstars

While I don't think that Death Metal is the "worst kind of Metal", I can see things from his point of view. Straight forward and Technical Death Metal (in my experience) seems to be way obsessed with very loud growling and that (I can't think of any other way to describe it) cutting riff sound with the guitars. Most songs seem to just be the same music through the whole song just with different lyrics. Sometimes, it's not even very heavy, just fast and scratchy. When listening to Death Metal, I usually listen to Melodic Death Metal (ie. At the Gates, The Haunted, and Into Eternity) or Progressive Death Metal (ie. Edge of Sanity). Much more musical, imo.

My preferred styles of Heavy Metal music are Thrash Metal (ie. Heathen, Assassin, and Overkill) and Traditional Heavy Metal (ie. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Manowar). I also dabble a bit in Power Metal (no, not that DragonForce cheese). It's weird, almost all of the traits of Thrash Metal are in Death Metal, but something seems to be lost when moving up to Regular/Technical Death Metal (sometimes, it's the speed, most other times, I just can't put my finger on it).
baphomet_irl wrote:Of the two main forms of 'extreme' metal, I would definitely veer more towards the Black Metal side myself.
Thrash Metal is considered "Extreme Metal" too. :) What Black Metal bands would you recommend? Most of the bands that I come across have crappy recording quality that just makes listening to their otherwise great music a chore.
RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Its ALL about the thrash metal people, Whiplash -Metallica and stuff like that.
Ugh, Whiplash. It's not that great of a song (Destruction's cover > Metallica's original recording).
I dont know what I would classify Slipknot as but I like them.
Slipknot is not Metal, I don't know what they are (my theory is some kind of Grunge Grindcore hybrid), but they're not Metal.

About the posters telling Moz that he shouldn't bash things: the way I see it, if you dislike something strong enough, you should bash the hell out of it. Hell, that's what forums, IRC chat rooms, etc are for!
