I need help identifying a Saturn game

Post by Doc »

I remember someone showed me a youtube video a while ago of a beautiful looking Japanese game for the Sega Saturn. The video title was in Japanese and I've lost the URL, so I need help identifying it. I'll try to decribe it as best as I can from memory.

It looked to be a 2D adventure game where you played as a green dragon looking thing. The sprites and the background were elaborate and very well done. In the part I saw (I think it was the beginning of the game) it took place in a forest area. Also it was a bit unorthadox since there was no HUD and rather than music there were only natural sounds. Also the text would appear in white in the middle of the screen when you spoke to someone. Finally, all of the creatures in the game seemed very, well, weird. A good kind of weird mind you.

Does anybody know what this is? Because I've seen nothing of it since. Also it isn't Blazing Dragons.

That would be Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari aka 'Tales of the Seven Wind Islands' by Enix. Personally it's one of my favourite games on the Saturn, the graphics are beautiful and it's a very enjoyable adventure game - I just wish it had been translated into English. Thankfully it's possible to muddle through the game using youtube videos and there are a couple of simple walkthroughs available, but because the game requires you at points to read questions and then write in the correct responses, it really isn't non-Japanese friendly, but still totally worth it if you love charming 2d graphics.

Here's a recent and excellent write-up.

Aha! That's the game. Thanks guys!

But yeah, it doesn't look very import friendly. No matter, I'm a sucker for charming 2D graphics and I love the game's style. I can probably manage to trod through it.
