Hello!
2 weeks ago I bought a 1989 Nintendo Game Boy, and while I was playing Tetris on it, it crashed. After that, it would bring up a glitched Nintendo logo and load none of my games, even the ones that worked fine on my other systems. I am planning to return it, but before I do, is there anything I can do about it?

My 1989 Game Boy busted out on me :(
I really just post questions most of the time. I'm that kind of person, but who cares...
Re: My 1989 Game Boy busted out on me :(
My question is why you refer to it specifically as a "1989" Gameboy? They were made for more than just one year and there isn't a manufactured on date on the unit. You could just call it original gameboy instead.
As others have suggested, try cleaning the cart slot. Otherwise you will need to open the unit to try to perform a deeper clean.

The original Game Boy was made for several years, it's not like they were all manufactured in 1989.HailToApples wrote:The one with the green screen.

For an actual helpful post:
When you say glitched out Nintendo logo, are you talking about it being a solid block, rather than the nice logo? I know that's the behavior if a game isn't inserted into the system. And since none of your games are working my suspicion is that there's something wrong with the cart connector. Since it happened mid gameplay I'm guessing that the system was jostled at the time, so maybe there's a loose connection somewhere. Unfortunately, you would need to open it up to really try and troubleshoot.

I agree with Popo. If there's a block coming up instead of a Nintendo logo, the Gameboy is not detecting a cart. By the way, the tool you need to open your Gameboy is called a "tri-wing" screwdriver. You can buy them cheap, but you have to order them olnine; I don't know of any brick and mortar store that sells this screwdriver.

You might try cleaning the cart connector on the system itself. Nintendo used to sell cleaning kits but I'm sure you could fashion your own with a couple minutes of google searching.

I am aware of the block, but it's not that, it looks more like a corrupted Nintendo logo.

I think I know what you're talking about, although I've seen it with my Game Boy Colour instead. Is the logo complete, but incredibly pixelated? Like if there was bad static on tv?HailToApples wrote:I am aware of the block, but it's not that, it looks more like a corrupted Nintendo logo.
If so, then it's yet again a cart connection problem. Luckily my GBC has never malfunctioned but it only appeared when I didn't insert the cartridge correctly. So unless you're not inserting it correctly everytime you want to play a game, then maybe there is a problem with the contacts.

Every time I tried to play a game it looked the same.
