How much do you guys spend a month on gaming
Re: How much do you guys spend a month on gaming
In the last 4 years that I have keep semi track I have bought with cash maybe $2,000 and sold maybe $3,500 worth of games. Just my ebay sells were $2,792. So far I am up $1500 over a 4 year period.
Re: How much do you guys spend a month on gaming
While in Houston, I was budgeted $250-$500 a month on gaming. After moving back here, I only spend about $20-$50 a month. Sometimes I don't bother buying anything new and choose to play older games, or emulate instead.

It's not hurting my family wre we cant do anything. If I have 20.00 at the end of two weeks that's with everything getting paid on bills and gas and kids and food. So family isn't left out, just my bank account.dsheinem wrote:Well, again, I started with an allotment of spending for the year so if my $ IN column is empty (I sell no games) I try to limit my $ OUT column to no more than what my monthly limit is. So, if you give yourself $100 a month, make sure that you don't push the $ OUT column past that limit. If you start to, you've forced yourself to sell stuff to balance it out to be back within the limit you've set. It's a way of penalizing yourself, I guess, if you go over.mas wrote:@Dsheinem:
That is an awesome way of keeping track. But what about if I don't sell games anymore and just keep games?
mas wrote:I'm wondering why I cant save any money or wonder after two weeks I only have 20.00 in my account. To be frank: if you have kids that are living in an environment where there might be only $20 in the family bank account at any given time and they aren't going to be able to get food/go out and enjoy life/etc. because you've spent the family budget on games...then you have a bigger problem here than simply bad buying habits that effect you. Stop buying games NOW. Build up a reserve that CAN'T be touched for games in case of a family emergency. Go for several months putting all your "game money" into a new savings account that can't be drawn on/transferred easily. Force discipline upon yourself and don't buy fucking Mega Man DLC.Because if I can save 450 a month till xmas I wont be hurting and next year ill be very comfortable, not rich but ok to where if I take the kids out I wont be hurting
If you can't do these basic things and you find yourself slipping back into a habit of buying games then you really should seek some kind of professional help with what can likely be classified as an addiction. I hate to be harsh, but I think you'll find that you feel much better WHEN you purchase games again knowing that A) other responsibilities are covered fully and B) you are working within a safe budget.
Time for some major changes, man. Best of luck.
And don't worry about being harsh its all good. Your just concerned about another gamer. Im going to see at the end of July on how much I saved. I have a plan and its going to work.
Its going to work out. I also want to say thank you and I will see you guys at the end of the month and I will tell you how I do.

I used to spend $500-750/month but now being full AES and arcade, I'm embarrassed to say mine, mas, so don't feel too bad. I think we all have it. I made a choice a long time ago to write off postage costs as a cost of the hobby. So if you think of it that way (and learn the best way to ship things) then really there isn't "too much" of a problem.
For every game that goes down in value in your collection one likely went up if you think of it that way. The one exception being new games and new hardware.
So if you spent $500 last month, you can probably get $500 back, minus the shipping, which again is the cost of the hobby, just like some hobbies cost lots of gas money, or other random supplies, etc.

$20-$40 a week, depending.
I made a decision a long time ago to cut out online purchases, and to stop going to pawn shops so much. Now I'm mostly an op-shop man, and once you get used to paying under $5 per game it's hard to go back. But hey, half the fun with me is the hunt and having patience always pays off.
For example, just this morning I picked up a complete copy of Shenmue 2 on Xbox (including the DVD) for $3. This is a game I've been after for a very long time, mind you, but I didn't bust out the $30-$40 it goes for online. Being patient and just playing what I came across in the mean time, paid out for me

My PS2 is the slim kind that has a NIC built into it... will this work around work on the slim?
