Bypassing school/university website restriction

Well, we have only Windows computers here and at school (tho there are a few Macs runnin' X). Supposedly some kids got in trouble last year for setting up a proxy to go on Myspace of all things. What are these illegal ways btw? just wanna know for funs sake.
I always wondered, as we pretty much only use IE, why we don't just block the sites students use with games via IE's blocked site function. You can make it so you need a password...Least, that seemed the best option as all the School wanted to do was get rid of MySpace and flash game sites (which the teachers would just have to write down the address and then give it to the techy's). Then again, I don't know how that would work on a large scale...

Supposedly this cost about 1000 bucks including w.e services St. Bernard may give per year I believe. What a waste. No wonder we are always needing extra budget money from parents, even though the government gives my school one of the biggest budget of Schools in California.

Well, not that using proxy is illegal, it just allows you to go to sites that they deem aren't allowed, which voids your user agreement, which apparently gets you in trouble. Try to see if you can get a hold of a district login, so that they can't see what you've been doing. Proxy itself though, is quite legal, and is a pretty effective way of hiding what you do on your computer( but I'm not saying it is the most effective)

no, because once you use that, your stuck to that page, meaning you can't log in to places. You can, however, bypass websence through https when going on gmail.

damn thats stupid as I often email my assignments to myself. Fortunately I use gmail, so if they decided to block it, I could use that, though I would think considering gmail is part of the google domain, is google search blocked as well. Then again, websence or w/e may do that particular web address...

Google.com on websence isn't blocked, however, gmail is. it's blocked under web mail I believe.

Here I am, from school. Found a new way to bypass. Using something like vtunnel.com, would allow you on any site. if http doesn't work, then try https. so https://vtunnel.com

I know this is an old thread, but thats how I roll.
Any newer ideas on how to surf sites like this where they restrict or track internet usage?
I remember reading about google os on a flashdrive... anyone try these things?
