How much do you guys spend a month on gaming

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

This is exactly what I was going to say. I'm seeing a pattern of what I could only call addiction... MAS take care of yourself dude and say no to making purchases sometimes. Before long you will be really upset with yourself and selling everything again.
I think this sort of thing happens more than we realize. I KNOW that it happens to me. I buy games because they are a great deal and don't plan to play them immediately and they just end up collecting dust on a shelf. Next thing I know I have nowhere left to store games and I realize that I will never be able to play them all and sell them off. I do this each time with the mind set that I will only buy what I plan to play and that's it. But, it doesn't work usually. I've been doing pretty well with this last purge and not been buying anywhere near the games I once did. In fact I've been able to visit my favorite spots without buying anything at all. Which I think is because I only have a Wii U, PS4, 3DS, and PC so my available games choices are far more limited than they used to be. Thankfully both the Wii U and PS4 libraries are pretty small and I already have most of the games I want on each one.

But have you sold off everything because your buying habits are putting you in bad financial situations? And then repeat the cycle a few times?

I haven't bought any games at all in the past 6 or so months outside of buying one game from B/S/T a while back.

Prices keep going up and the market keeps getting more and more inaccessible, I don't know how anyone can do a regular purge/buy/purge/buy thing like that unless they've got a pretty hefty disposable income. Hell just collecting in general has gotten pretty wildly expensive, especially if you're not regularly buying lots and reselling, etc.

Generally I never use credit cards for game-related purchases. I take a set amount of money out of the bank every week. What's left over after food / baby stuff / necessities can be used for "fun" purchases. If I want to get something from the internet I'll get a money order, Amazon gift card, reload a PayPal card, etc. If I don't have the cash at hand, I ain't buying it.

I'm glad that the bulk of my collecting happened years ago before the market for retro games went stupid. Buying lots off craigslist, keeping what I wanted and selling the rest was my bread and butter for years. But its been probably 2 years almost since I found a decent lot to purchase on craigslist. Now I find myself just filling the gaps for games I've always wanted a just barely below the average ebay or store price which sucks. But the only thing that allows me to do this is the fact that my income has gone up enough over the years so that~$200/mo on games isn't such a big deal.

the only big thing I sold this year was my dreamcast collection to u guys. I just have to stop impulse and calm down on ebay

No, I spend more than I think I should. But I have never spent money to a point where my finances are in jeopardy.

For a long time I was a chronic game buyer/hoarder. I have spent a small fortune on games, no exaggeration. This went on for about 15 years easily. It leads to one being broke and having way more games to play then one can in one's life time. I've sold off and given away a lot of my collection since then, trying to keep only the best and most interesting stuff going forward.

These days I give myself a set budget every week. It's currently $35 a week, or about $140 a month. For $140 I can buy a couple brand new releases every month (or quite a few older ones). Considering I only beat a few games a month then I'm still taking in more games on that budget than I have time to beat regardless. The hard part is making yourself stick to an allotted budget every week. But after a while you get used to it, and it becomes second nature to make sure you're staying within that boundary. So if you want to buy a $60 game you have to save some money from one week and roll it into the next. If you can make yourself that disciplined, you'll be alright.
