Death Metal is the worst kind of metal.

I don't care how talented the performers are, that's an entire genre that isn't even music. It's noise with demon growls. People just listen to it because they think it's manly or something. After 5 excruciating hours of it tonight, I now understand how it achieved the word "Death", because that's what I feel like.

Best part was the 10 seconds where one guy screwing around played some moonlight sonata, and I swear not one person in the place even recognized what it was. Pathetic.

of the two main forms of 'extreme' metal, I would definitely veer more towards the Black Metal side myself - as I actually prefer the Orcish squeal of BM to the low growl of Death Metal. I also prefer the mood/darkness of BM. However, BM can often be lacking in 'riffs' so my favourite stuff is often I spose what could be called Blackened Death Metal, bands like Akercocke and Immortal, who have the cold mood of BM, but also some tight DM type riffs.

Over technical DM pisses me off somewhat thou.

I really do like bands like Morbid Angel and Death who would be influential on DM, but in general I prefer Black (and Viking) Metal (Black Metal Ist Kreig!!! \m/ )

You might not like the cookie monster vocals, or the crazy speed the song picks up during the verses, but you surely have to concede that those guitarists and that drummer are all fucking amazing. I'm not even the biggest fan of death metal, I much prefer technical stuff like Decapitated & Morbid Angel and melodic death metal like In Flames, Dark Tranquility, The Haunted & Soilwork.

What bands did you see btw, to leave you with such a negative opinion of an entire genre?

when I said I disliked technical stuff - I meant 'modern' DM I obviously wasnt talking bout Morbid Angel - Fall From Grace is one of my fave metal songs ever - up there with Angel Of Death, Hand Of Doom and Sons Of Northern Darkness :p - I saw Cephalic Carnage live once and the Jazz/Funk 5 stringed bass breaks were simply not for me ;o

I'm a huge fan of Death Metal and the guttural vocals are awesome and the drum work and guitar work are simply amazing. The type of Death Metal you're talking about is called Brutal Death Metal or Guttural Brutal Death Metal. i know of bands that would amaze you with how technical they're. Don't bash what you don't understand or dislike.

I have to agree with Moz, Death Metal sucks period. Every song sounds the same and theres no lyrical diversity. Kill, rape and kill with the same grumbling pitch gets very old after awhile. I have to admit though it takes a lot of endurance to beat the shit out of your instruments for 2 hours. Just because it takes endurance to play death metal doesn't make it good. because in the end it all sounds the same. Pungent Stench, Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under are just some of the many death metal groups I can think of that all sound the same. Pugent Stench sounds pretty good until the so call singer starts "singing" and ruins the song. They should offer instrumental versions they would sound much better.

I second this! I cant stand most Death Metal either, but I'm not part of that culture so I wouldnt bash it at all. You can make the same generalizations about most kinds of music until you become very familiar with them.

I like Death Metal, but I perfer the Late 80s to Late 90s kind, I don't like this whole "Deathcore" shit like Blowjob For a Cowboy, But I am not going to bitch about it, because thats your opinion.

Its ALL about the thrash metal people, Whiplash -Metallica and stuff like that. I dont know what I would classify Slipknot as but I like them. Hey did you guys here anything about how the government is using American metal to torture captives?
