Sorry to hear that, nickfil. I went through 4 360's that all RR'd on me before getting a PS3. I miss a lot of the great 360 exclusives (Gears, mostly).
1-800-4MY-Xbox was never any help - they even wanted to charge for repair when it was still under warranty. Then I learned to call and ask for 3rd Tier Escalations and I spoke with a guy actually from the US and not Mexico (where the call centre is) and got my 2nd 360 fixed in under 2 weeks and it was immaculate...of course this was in Canada so I don't know what the US repair centres are like.

Re: RRoDed
As before, I wonder how many people actually know? Yes, it's all over gamer news sites on the web. But how many mainstream folks read those news sources? It's not in "traditional" news systems, like newspapers and TV. And store owners sure as hell aren't going to advertise it when they sell the console.corn619 wrote:What I'm saying is people that are stupid when they will buy crap when they know there crap will fail in a year or so.
"Some reason" in Microsoft's case is starting out with $80bn surplus.corn619 wrote:Most companies that make crap are not able to stay in the video game business. Especially considering when there are so many other choices out there. Its simple make crap and people won't buy it Microsoft being the exception for some reason.
I read a statement the other day - I don't know how factual it is. But the gist was that if Microsoft stopped making money today - i.e.: they didn't make a single cent from ANY of their products across the board - they could continue existing as a company just on liquid assets (i.e.: cash reserves) for 8 YEARS. I can't think of many companies in that same position (especially in today's economic market).
Microsoft have been releasing crap for a long time and getting away with it. As someone said to me once: if a toaster failed as often as Windows (or XBox 360, or any other Windows software I can think of), the toaster manufacturer would have a class action on their hands within weeks. Microsoft seem to have an aura about them where people forget/ignore their product faults, and just keep on buying (a bit like the Apple "Reality Distortion Field"). The only quality thing about Microsoft is their marketing team, because they seem to be able to take the worst products on the planet and sell them to a huge volume of people.

Just thought I'd say I've had my 360 for well over 2 years and never had a problem with it.

After my second RRoD, on the same day that I got it back from repairs of the first one, I never played it again. Sent it back in for repairs, then traded it in to Gamestop for some new PS3 games. I love my PS3.
Re: RRoDed
Two RRoD's myself. Great software, poor hardware. Though, as time presses on, I've spent more time gaming on my PS3 and PC specifically because of these hardware issues. I don't feel the need to invest time in games that I may not be able to play in the weeks ahead, y'know?
Really, there aren't too many titles that you can't get elsewhere. Such a shame that those titles are (mostly) killer apps that are worth the price of admission. Not to say my other platforms don't have issues from time to time, but Microsoft hasn't demonstrated any reason to keep me a fan outside of a few good FPS's and shmups.
At least the warranty service is decent. Plus, they gave us avatars! Avatars for goodness sake, people, what more do you want?!?!

I eventually plan on getting a 360.. I am beginning to think they will never sort out the RRoD problem during the consoles lifespan.

I always think about posting the same thing but I feel a bit guilty saying it ....Niode wrote:Just thought I'd say I've had my 360 for well over 2 years and never had a problem with it.
They gotta come out with a true hardware revision if they want to snare the final level of consumers who've been hesitant to buy a 360 for just this reason.

This is why when I buy a 360, I'll buy it at Costco. There's nothing quite like an unlimited return policy for peace of mind and not having to contemplate buying an extended warranty~elvis wrote:Same for me. My biggest concern is what happens if your XBox 360 RRoD's outside of the warranty period. Within the first 12 months is fine, but if you're at year 3 or 4 and it goes, you're up for a whole new console.D.D.D. wrote:but when every system I have since the NES came out still works, this doesn't exactly sell me on it's reliability.
I'm still playing my original Sega Megadrive and Master System consoles. Next-gen gaming is all good and fine, but the piss-poor quality of the hardware base units is really concerning.
