"Early access" doesn't bug me as long as it's labelled as such. Personally though, I think online updates for console games has led to rushed, lazy developers. Games aren't thoroughly tested anymore before shipping out the door because why would you bother? Someone finds a bug, it gets reported, you push out a patch, done. Back in the olden days you had to PRAY your game sold well enough (with the bug) to rate a Greatest Hits release where you could fix the problem.

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

I think the "indie bubble" is a reality. There's a lot of reasons I do, but I'm not in the mood to type three paragraphs explaining why. I think the good news is once the bubble pops and the dust settles, it's likely only the truly good devs will survive and thrive. Better signal to noise ratio then I hope.

Let me know when you make a thread about it! I would love to discuss it!

Here's a pretty good link on a different site:

I think it boils down to too many games, released too quickly, with not enough quality control. We know how this sort of situation panned out once upon a time.

Too many choices leads to apathy.

Only as much as Super Mario Bros looks like Gradius looks like Legend of Zelda because they're both made of pixels and have enemies that mostly fit into neat squares and have number counters that often go up when you do things in the game.

3DDH and MC are both chunky pixel games translated into 3D environments.

Also, that image of 3D Dot is not representative of how the game looks while playing it, it is isometric top-down like ALttP, whereas the image of Minecraft is representative.

I agree with there being too many indie games coming out. When I look at a gaming site, and 3/4 of it is filled with indie game news or new kickstarters, it is flat out grating.

I also find it extremely annoying how many indie games go for PC, and then never make any effort on consoles or the like.

It's an issue of development costs. It is very easy to develop for PCs, whereas with consoles you need to purchase dev kits and get licensed and a bunch of other really annoying things that end up locking out one-and-two man teams. Microsoft went out of their way to produce an indie inroad for the 360 and we're starting to see that a bit with this generation, but on the whole it's still more difficult to develop for the consoles. There's also the issue of the approvals process for patches on the console front. With the PC you can generally get a patch out in a couple days if your users find some massive bug. With the console you go through a whole certification process that takes a while, and frequently a lot of money.
