Suggest me a new wireless router
So I have a little G router that was sufficient for small apartment use, but in my house, it's really not up to par. I assume I want to upgrade to N? How can I assure range? Can anyone suggest a specific model with decent range and a decent price?

http://www.apple.com/airport-express/
I think the Apple Airport Express' are great still. Its super small, reliable, easy to setup with a free utility app from a mac, pc or iphone (no browser based setup required). Also it has the added bonus of being able to connect to any usb printer to make it wireless and has auxiliary out port so it can turn any set of speakers into wireless airplay speakers. Last thing to note is that it does simultaneous dual band, so it puts out wireless N and G at the same time so you know that any new or old device will work with it.
edit - they are normally $99 new but you can get a refurbished one from Apple for 25% off here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC414 ... -june-2012

Linksys WRT1900AC

Though if you want something in the sub $200 realm - Linksys e2500 is a workhorse:
And can be bought certified refurb for $36:

Jeez $36 is legit Fast.
What would be reasonable To expect on the range of that one?

I have installed that Linksys a couple dozen times, never had an issue with it. Well I take that back, had an issue in one location that kept having brown outs. The poor router just could not take it. Granted the Belkin I installed to replace it didnt fair much better.
Re: Suggest me a new wireless router
I use two wireless routers tied by Ethernet cable. This gives two separate hot points depending where you are at anywhere in the house or patio. Locked out with passwords too to keep the wireless signal to just my connections.
Any system that does not have to be moved around gets an ethernet cable for the fastest connection.

It would be nice to future proof with 802.11ac like the one that fast posted, but I can attest that the Linksys E2500 is legit. It's not top of the line as far as range goes, but your house isn't that big, is it?noiseredux wrote:Jeez $36 is legit Fast.

My house is 1,900 sq feet. Basically i just want to get a clear signal for streaming boxes and tablets.

If it's in the middle you should be fine, if it's on one end you might have a tough time. Any problems with the infrastructure of your house? Things like metal mesh in the walls from older homes wreak havoc on WiFi.noiseredux wrote:My house is 1,900 sq feet. Basically i just want to get a clear signal for streaming boxes and tablets.

Nah no issues like that. But the router is on one side, and needs to be cuz my gaming pc has to be wired son
But assuming this Linksys would have better range than my cheap Dynex G, I should be good. I get a weak signal in my kitchen on the other end of the house now, but a signal nonetheless.
