the 161 is nice to have, I have pretty much all the games I deem necessary for my collection except for a few that are going for over $100, so games like Pulstar and Capcom vs SNK I can just play on the multi. It's also convenient to leave it in the cab since it is a bit of a pain to reach in and unlatch the control panel to get access to the cart.

Anyone design Neo Geo MVS shockbox art? I had an excellent idea for a better design for the 161 in 1 insert art using the SNK arcade Classics insert from the PS2/Wii. I'm just not savvy enough to do it myself.

Wow lots of good info! Thank you mjmjr25! I immediately emailed HKLegend for a $35 MVS.

Another quick question though. He has 2 small MVS boards. MVH-MV1FZ and MVH-MV1FZS. Is there any notable difference? They're the same price as well.

For anyone unfamiliar, Arcade-Otaku is a arcade forum based in the UK. They have their own wikipedia and it answer i'd say 80% of any question you'll ever have. Invaluable site.

Here is the most thorough breakdown of all things MVS motherboards:

mjmjr25 wrote:@ bumblechump - you can get an MVS mobo for considerably cheaper from HKLegend or ANY of the JP shops, pm me if you want details.
Have you ever bought a cab through HKLegend? They look to stock bootleg candies.

A cab? I've never considered shipping a cab from that far - haven't even looked at their stock. I did plan to get Deathsmiles Mega Black Label about 10 months ago for $1,100 but was told there was a "minor repair" on the board. Not paying anywhere near that for a repaired board - don't care how rare or how much I love that series.

About 2 years ago up until maybe 6 mos ago, HKLegend was THE place to get PGM stuff. I got probably 65% of my stuff from them - now that well is dry and what they do have left they've finally discovered ebay - as in they created an account 2 weeks ago.

I'm so glad we have you around, Mike. I would never find these sites or know what good prices are. I see things like "PGM motherboard: $75" on their site and think "I wonder if that's any good?" plus a handful of $17 carts and just have no idea. My curiosity would be the death of me without someone to guide me.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

I'm glad to be around 8)

$75 for a mobo is about as good as you can do nowadays. G-Front is $90 and Tops is $95. All prices before shipping. There are still a few Korean ebay dealers (isiaotakun (sp?), drkittykr, and one more that escapes me) that do a mobo and 4 decent games for around $300, that is the best you can do nowadays if you are just starting out.

The nice thing about HKLegend is you always deal with the same gentleman named Wen and once you establish a rapport you can "tweak" prices a little bit. Dealing with the bigger shops there isn't much negotiating and they won't even consider anything but EMS shipping until you've established a very strong rapport. They will generally hold things for you while you organize a buy, but not much beyond that.

As far as those $17 carts - those are almost always going to be your Dragon World and Photo games. Photo is like memory match and Dragon World (4 diff versions) are all tile games, which can be quite fun actually once you figure them out.

Original Knights of Valour can still be found $50-60, but everything else now is $75 and up, with many titles like Gladiator and DDP II being in the $150 range. Spectral vs Generation is the rarest PGM (official) cart and can do up to $250.

So I gotta ask, are these prices reasonable? Or are there better cheaper ways to get an MVS to play at home? Also, does anyone have experience with that alexipress site?
I had a good experience with Aliexpress (bought a 161 cart) and a bad experience as well (bought a 138 cart which was DOA). I went through the "arbitration process" with the seller (which was long and drawn out) and they ultimately determined that since I was using a CMVS (not a cabinet), then I wasn't using "original hardware". So no refund.

how were you using the 138 in 1 on a CMVS? doesn't that one require a Jamma daughterboard so you can't really use it on a CMVS unless you replace the daughterboard with dipswitches?
