Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Forever I thought Android games were poop. This weekend I was stuck at the inlaws so I gave the Google Play store another chance. Got kinda addicted to Delver. Found a lot more great stuff (Devil's Attorney, Pixel Dungeon, Deus Ex: The Fall...). Now I understand why less and less people are buying dedicated handhelds. I don't really blame them now, and that astounds me to admit it to myself.

They're starting to come around, the only thing is you've got to wade through the mountains of advertising schlock to find the gems. The market is starting to grow a beard though and not just with indie developers. Check out Sega's offerings. Crazy Taxi is amazingly playable with touch controls and it's one of the best ports of the game I've played.Exhuminator wrote:Forever I thought Android games were poop. Though in Android specific games, Kingdom Rush 1&2 are quite good. I say keep an eye on the Humble bundle since they do Android bundles occasionally. I have bought and played alot that I never would have if they werent in the bundle - The Shivah for example.

So are the Sonic games! I also have Sonic & Sega All Star Racing, but I haven't played it yet.Gunstar Green wrote:Check out Sega's offerings. Crazy Taxi is amazingly playable with touch controls and it's one of the best ports of the game I've played.

I agree; I was shocked by how well the smartphone/tablet port controls! i was never able to do drifts and stunts in the console or arcade versions, but it's easy as pie on my phone!Gunstar Green wrote:They're starting to come around, the only thing is you've got to wade through the mountains of advertising schlock to find the gems. No kidding man. Check this video out:Gunstar Green wrote:The market is starting to grow a beard though and not just with indie developers.
And that game is 2 years old!
Really had my head in the sand with mobile. I admit it.
Does anybody know a really good website for keeping up with mobile "real" game reviews? One that sorts reviews into a database you can narrow down?

One thing I actually like about mobile is that it's the perfect market for arcade-style pick-up-and-play design philosophies to flourish in ways they haven't been able to since arcades were actually viable.

Man that would be freaking awesome though, I've never had a dream of a talking animal(including dolphin) except some weird fish in with human bodies in business suitslisalover1 wrote:A recurring theme in my dreams is finding super-rare retro games in a regular Gamestop, but I always wake up when the talking dolphin tells me how unrealistic that sounds.General_Norris wrote:Yesdarsparx wrote:Here's a random thought: has anyone ever dreamt they found games they've lost?![]()

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
You're right; both in game design and monetization, many arcade and mobile games share the same principles, especially arcade games from before the 3rd generation of home consoles.AppleQueso wrote:One thing I actually like about mobile is that it's the perfect market for arcade-style pick-up-and-play design philosophies to flourish in ways they haven't been able to since arcades were actually viable.
