Just for the record regarding the Sonic comics, the reboot that just occurred (which also for the record, is the only reboot the series has had) was a direct result of Ken Penders and his lawsuit.

Simply put, he forced the issue, and the world had to be reset in order to shift things around and remove the characters that he had a hand in creating.

Ian Flynn (the series writer for the past few years) had several months worth of story arcs ready to go that were thrown out as a result of this. So the reboot wasn't a story decision, it was a result of real life money and licensing matters. It wouldn't have happened otherwise.

It's the only continuity reboot as long as "Genesis" doesn't count I guess? Do you have some kind of source about the Ken Penders' lawsuit being the reason for the reboot?
I was kind of imagining Sega had a hand in it, paired with the fact that it's a quick & dirty way to clean up the many-many plot threads that were started with no resolution in sight (Sally roboticized, Antoine comatose, Bunnie's wearabouts unkown, Ixis Naugus haunted by the three wizards that make him up, etc.).

Even if they HAD to do something dramatic to erase Ken Penders' characters, they could have rebooted the continuity in a minor way but throwing the "problem" characters away into the void or something while leaving the previous threads intact.
