Sonic movie coming.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The early issues are super-goofy, then it got a little more serious and SatAM-like from around issues 20-50, then it took a left turn "killing" Robotnik and floundered for a looong while (the Knuckles series picked up the slack until it ended). The series improved after getting rid of writer Ken Penders with issue #160. (With some occasional high points: there was a "Mobius: 25 Years Later" which is super-satisfying if you're the kind of person who wants to read about grown-up married King Sonic & Queen Sally or wondered what Knuckles' daughter would be like.)

My favorite non-nostalgic issue was #174, that one really convinced me to get back into Sonic after letting my subscription lapse with issue #100 and just occasionally picking up random issues from time to time. I'd recommend checking out this collection containing that story arc.

Unfortunately after that, the continuity has been rebooted a couple times which is total cop-out storytelling IMO. I thought the Mega Man crossover was creatively bankrupt and completely bland. To me, it just felt like a marketing gimmick that lasted twice as long as it should have. And of course, that crossover ended with a continuity reboot and the series is still finding its footing as a result... I just find it frustrating. But I keep reading...
I did actually go back and read the Mobius 25 years later arc when I was trying to get into the comic again because someone else recommended it to me and thought it was pretty entertaining. Honestly I would have probably been more interested in keeping up with the comic if they had allowed the characters to age and develop instead of simply rebooting things. That kind of continuity is waaay more interesting. Knuckles' daughter was a great character.

I see where you're coming from on World's Collide. I guess I was suckered in by the fanservicey nature of it and I thought some of the jokes were cute. I mostly really enjoyed Eggman and Wily's bromance.

There's all ready a Sonic: the Animated Movie from 1999, so I guess this must be a feature film? Cool.

I just ordered some Sonic plush dolls and other stuff for my little nephew, who loves Sonic. Just cause some random dude on racketboy thinks Sonic sucks now, doesn't mean anything. I'm sure something he likes is crap to me.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

I remember buying a horrible Sonic cross over comic with a bunch of human super heroes. Since I was a kid who grew up reading European comics I didn't understand the point of what they were doing, nor of the various spin-off series like Knuckles (I liked it a lot, I just didn't understand why it was a separate comic series).

That was really just a repackaged anime OVA from 1996 though.

There was also the UK made Sonic the Comic to add to your confusion.

It never arrived over here. Mainland Europe mostly reads French and Belgian comics.

We did get the English dub of the French Sonic cartoon though which was just all kinds of horrible

(I do love the French title, "Sonic le Rebelle" )

EDIT 2

At least they don't have 1 person playing all 3 characters so I guess that makes it a bit better

That's Robotnick young man. Eggman is just stupid. I don't like that they've changed him into a joke character (the cut-scenes in modern sonic games just....hurt). I always felt Sonic had a more serious/epic feel to other mascot platform games and the name change fit the mood. But as we've learned Sega of Japan are assholes so they probably didn't like the changes(improvements) Sega of America did to the game series's mythology.

I know it's Robotnik. I can't stand Eggman either the more I say it the more I hate it. I'll probably say robotnik every time it comes up in a conversation instead...someone really ought to get them to change it back somehow :?

I'll agree with Eggman/Wily's bromance being entertaining. I really liked the "Evil Friends Forever" variant covers. It's pretty great to see Wily and Eggman riding a bicycle built for two or playing "Eggsbox" together.

That was one of the low points of the series. Even among American fans, those comics weren't especially well known (aside from Spawn, who only appears in one panel). And those superheros were all from extremely not-kid-friendly titles, so it REALLY didn't make sense to have a crossover. I really have no idea who thought it would be a good idea...
