Re: The Retron 5 - The only review you need!
Not making the cart slot big enough for the 32X games? Boooo. That really bugs me because I was hoping for eventual 32X compatibility. I might be a tiny minority but being able to play 32X games without having to mess with my 32X would have been a huge selling point for me.
You guys looked into a lot of things I was wondering about since most reviews have seriously neglected the Genesis side of the console. Thanks for that.
Hopefully a lot of the niggling problems and compatibility issues will be worked out in future firmware releases. A lot of fixes have been made already so I'm optimistic. I'm not $140 optimistic though.

Re: The Retron 5 - The only review you need!
I love my Retron 5. Over in our Retron 5 discussion thread I've been extolling the virtues of this fine machine, as well as going through all of Hyperkin's Facebook posts and other forums where people own them to provide the best advice to everyone here.
I like it most because I don't have a Genesis and space is very limited, I can't keep my NES and SNES plugged in together and it was just a mess of wires. With this I can keep just one unit and have a lot less mess and a much better audio and video experience.
I can understand your frustration with not being able to save back to the cartridge. As of right now there is an issue with saves mainly with games using EEPROM memory to save (many GBA games for example) but a fix is coming soon.
I don't have reproductions or homebrew games, but Hyperkin has also stated that work in supporting them is underway. I wouldn't slam it so hard because it doesn't support them right away. I don't think that was part of their goals for this console right out of the gate.
However, I had no idea that Japanese Sunsoft MD titles were not going to fit. That's something new to me, and something perhaps Hyperkin should have realized.
If I had every console that the Retron 5 supports with the best video quality for each, I can see why you prefer the original hardware. I also understand the Retron 5 is not for everyone. I enjoyed your comprehensive review, still the best overall, but I am still going to enjoy my purchase. A lot of the issues that came up in your review are in the works for future firmware updates.

I was wondering why you guys hadn't released anything in a while and when I clicked on this link, I found I was unsubscribed! Not sure what went wrong there, but none the less I'm resubscribed. Keep up the good work

So what happened to that Tetris box?

The fact it dumps the roms makes me think what is the point really. Might as well just play emulator on the xbox or Wii. Your views at the end pretty much mirror mine.
Great video guys.

What if you had more copies lying around?

Did you make a repro box then?
