I'm a fan of F-Zero and would definitely like a new one, but I'm probably in the minority in saying that I don't want one done just like GX for the Gamecube. While I do like the game, it's my least favorite F-Zero for a few reasons. The controls I never got used to and often worked against me more than it worked for me (even when calibrating, it made almost no difference to me). I didn't like how you unlock events in story mode. Seriously, why do I need tickets accumulated from winning GP races to unlock story mode events? Makes no damn sense. Oh I beat this one event in story mode but I can't go on to the next one because I'm 20 tickets short so now I have to re-race a cup in GP mode and get my ass handed to me for the 400th time. Seriously? Why can't I just play the next one, I beat the current event in story mode, isn't that enough? Oh and the difficulty, even on the easiest setting, made me want to shut the game off and play something else. Or throw my wavebird at my television.
Kind of a shame because I actually like getting the tickets to unlock things like new cars, parts, etc. just not the story mode events. I like almost everything else in the game a lot, but yeah those things I mentioned definitely hampered my experience.
I almost don't care which platform I'd want a new F-Zero game on, but, if it were to happen on the 3DS, a game like F-Zero X (with better graphics obviously) would be great. If a Wii U version came out, as long as it fixes the stuff I had complaints with on GX, I would be interested (if I did get a Wii U). Whether we actually get a new F-Zero game or not.....well that's another story.
Wii-U thoughts so far
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
See, 11 years ago when the game came out (boy do I feel old right now), I loved the high difficulty and the controls. Because I felt like a freaking god when I had mastered the game and had completed the GP mode and was not far off completing those story missions. The key was you had to understand the sensitivity of the analogue sticks and use very precise movements.
But yeah... I rebought a Gamecube and a copy of the game a few years back and I was getting my ass handed to me. I just can't play 'hard' games anymore
Also, I completely agree on the 'needing tickets to unlock the next mission' thing. I always thought that was annoying.

Hmm, yeah I personally didn't like GX as much as the others as well and it was probably the difficulty haha. I definitely remember it being brutal.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
If there was any game that had me nearly throwing controllers at the TV and Gamecubes out the window, it was that game

I want to say Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer was a similar difficulty level and damn near endless. Maybe my memories are jaded, but I swear that game had like 100 levels or something? I never beat it lol.

I wasn't even aware that there was an F-Zero game on the Gamecube at that time. I think the only time I did any extensive Gamecube playing at all in 2003 was possibly during that summer when I would be at my grandparents and my friend Marc would come by and we ended up playing Gauntlet Dark Legacy. I ended up trading that game in (along with Eternal Darkness) at the EB games outside of my old college. Only recently did I feel like "well damn, I better get that Gauntlet game back." but I held it off thinking it would still cost 20-25 bucks for a complete copy. Then in 2014, jerks with too much money started snapping up copies, now it's like 40 bucks for a disc only copy. BAH
Back to F-Zero....yeah I'm a relatively new fan. I had been aware of the original one for the SNES, and I might have been vaguely aware of F-Zero X for the N64, but I knew nothing else about the series until I started getting back into retro gaming. 2011 was when I actually experienced F-Zero for the first time and it was great so I decided to go after all of them. I've managed to get them all (the ones released here) for very cheap (except for GX which I got for I think 11 or 13 bucks). Only ones I'm missing are Climax (aka the last one for the GBA which is Japan only) and the F-Zero X expansion kit for the N64 DD. I don't really count it as official, but I know there are reproduction carts of BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 and I kinda want to get one, even though I don't buy repro carts.
You are right about the analog stick and controls. I had been so used to the controls in the other F-Zero games, and then this one comes out and I'm like "uh.....am I doing this wrong?". I'd like to think I'm better at it now than I was when I first played it like over a year ago, but in reality I'm probably not much better. It feels like one of those games where it's hard to learn, harder to master. I will revisit it again but will probably need patience (and a lot of vodka) to try again.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Another World 20th Anniversary was released on Wii U VC a few days ago.
You know, it's really funny. Yesterday I was thinking to myself, "Man, it'd be awesome to have the 20th Anniversary edition of Another World on the U VC. A few hours later, I just randomly decided to check the eShop to see what was new. Go figure, Another World was just released!
I'm so happy. I've been wanting to check out this edition for a while now. I have it on Sega CD and DOS (I also have it on SNES but I don't consider that version to be playable) but I was just thinking how'd it'd be great to have on the U for convenience. AND I get to check out the 20th edition with the new high res. What A coincidence.

It's a pretty cool edition. I have it on iPhone and from GOG. I'm not going to triple-dip though.
I wish they'd remake Heart of the Alien too.

Yeah, I've been eyeing the 20th Anniversary for a year or two now. I was gonna buy it on PC, but I read that the DRM is strict (allows you to install the game 5 times then that's it). I know it's on GOG with no DRM, but I don't have an account. So that's why I was thinking it'd be awesome to have on the U. Well, wish granted, I guess.
I downloaded it late last night and launched it just to check it out for a second. I ended up playing halfway through the game.
edit: The splash screen for when the game is loading is awesome. It's the original box art picture, but it's high res so you can see the texture of it (looks like a painting on canvas).
