Your Oculus Rift Dream Game/software wish list.

Post by flojocabron »

I read the Wired Article on the Oculus Rift the other day. It was nice, and it made me think about what future possibilities there are for this hardware.

The article not only touched on games, but other real world applications. All are feasible and will definitely be a part of the oculus experience.

But here on this thread, I want to discuss games and its ilk. What old games you would love to play again? Will there be totally new game genres created just for it? And the inevitability of social games? We may mock them now, but we will definitely play them.

With new technology there will be new markets available for them.

I can see a future where the Oculus rift will have apps like on Android and Apple. Where you can download games and preview things all in the comfort of your home.

One thing for sure, we'll be needing lots of BEN-GAY for all those neck pains we'll be having!

Post away!

I am very excited for the Oculus Rift.

I'll have to think of some ideas and post, but to start off, there is a game that has a better idea than anything I could come up with. It creates a virtual synesthesia using your voice and having it affect the visual and auditory virtual world. It's called SoundSelf, and you can see more about it here:

I can't think of anything else that looks like it would be such an awe-inspiring game to play, while also making you look utterly ridiculous while playing it. Prepare for laughs and a strong desire to play.

I can totally see a driving application for the Oculus rift. You can download it so you can drive the new Car models for 2016 right in your home. A test drive without damaging a new car at the car lot! Definitely a Gran Turisimo like game for your VR set!

I would love to see a TITANIC game. One where your actually down there seeing the ship in its rusticle glory! No worries about being crushed to death! Someone should go down there and take some high quality pictures (or use the ones already taken) and see what its like thousands of feet under the ocean.

I saw some pictures like this of WWII http://fstoppers.com/world-war-ii-photo ... ern-street This would also be an awesome game. Where you can travel back and forth between past and future. It could be a FPS game or it could be a exploration game.

I know its a little cliche but a VR game based on this movie would be interesting!

We have the headset already and someone can create the visuals. But exploring the human body would be awesome from the inside!

Speaking of movies, the possibilities are endless! One day if a motion picture is made, there can be deleted scenes where you can use the Oculus rift just like if you were in there. Being a witness or actually a main character. Its kinda already done with many DVD's/Blu-Ray movies with alternate angles. You can hype up a trailer by being in it!

For the asian market, I can totally see a Mahjong Game on the Rift. Its popularity will make it a no brainer.

Speaking of Asia. If someone hasn't thought of this yet for Oculus, I fear for the future of gaming...
ImageAccel World Oculus!
I've read the manga and I liked it, but now with the Oculus, this is just one step closer to being a possibility!

so..... what do you dudes and dudettes think of my ideas?

I think any game with vehicles is going to feel the most natural because it is a real-world context where we are used to sitting in place and looking around, which is pretty much what we will be doing with VR for awhile, before people figure out a good way to do walking.

I think anything that involves sneaking around will be good. Looking around the corner in a stealth game, hiding in a closet and peeking through the slats in a survival-horror game, or peering through the keyhole of a noir detective murder mystery game are all activities that should be enhanced by this kind of tech.

Boxing games could also be really good because you could bob and weave your head to dodge while using motion controls for the hands to punch.

I think it would be cool to have a VR arcade with lots of recreated classic cabinets. The virtual-space will allow the arcade to populate up to a 100 person capacity before it creates a new arcade for the next group of players. This way, the arcades don't have thousands of players in them and could have a more intimate feel. Perhaps, it could even match people by geographic location. It would be cool to be able to watch other people play, start up side by side Street Fighter II or Joust games with other avatars in the arcade, and feel like online multiplayer is a real arcade again.

I think if you could have your microphone transmit audio only to people within your avatar's space, so you could walk around and talk to people only in your proximity, that this would be cool too.

For me, all of these would be wicked in VR:

A King's Field type of game, explore a huge dungeon full of death and wonder.

A Fatal Frame sort of game... survival horror in first person with ghosts and pants shitting.

An Endless Ocean sort of game, exploratory scuba diving but with quests and a huge area to map out.

A Pilot Wings type of game, flying crazy contraptions up in the air.

A Trauma Team kinda game, first person surgery yo.

Add in local multiplayer to any of these too. Yes you could do local multiplayer with VR over WiFi, and see each other's relative position in the VR world.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

If done right, any FPS game ever made.

Also a Pokemon game.
