Anime Confusion

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello,
If any followers are out there, you would know that I lately have been trying to watch anime,
I saw captain bebop, beserk, and hellsing...all are ok, wither beserk being most interesting but nothing that wants you to keep on going, speciall when other stuff is better and out there(lost, sopranos, desperate housewives..etc)

Any how my friend told me to watch one piece , and its the best yet(I really love the expressions) its funny and interesting as a story specially the long journey. So I rent it from dvd place.

The cover, the cd, is all original and legit. Actually its one of the few dvd cases that i see put more effort into than black plastic case with cover, but the subtitles is total crap!

different fonts are used, spelling and grammer mistakes are so much that the story gets confusing, for example one character says "my families" while he is referring to his family,
the character namy , I read 3 amounts of money, she is first trying to collect
1 million
then I read, 100 million
and at some point she is trying to collect 1 billion!!!
I meant what is it

for those who follow the story, the grand line has been called many things in the subtitles , one of them is the grand route...its getting confusing really

how can this be on a legit dvd? I dont speak english as first language, and god knows how many spelling and grammar mistakes I do, and even though i don't know any japanese
I think I can do a better subtitle job just looking at the english japanese dictionary

It sounds like they're bootleg DVDs - i've bought many anime boxsets over the years, only to find the subtitles written in the most incomprehensible Engrish (which is English written badly by an Asian person) possible. Also, they could be legit DVDs, just with really poor subtitles - translating from Japanese to English can be very, very tricky as I understand it. Translating directly from a dictionary so wouldn't work.

Anyways, your best bet to continue watching One Piece is to download the free Fansubs from the net - it's hard to believe, but more often than not Fansubs subtitles can be better than official retail disc subtitles. Btw, there are nearly 400 episodes of One Piece, it'll take a while to download - alternatively, you can watch them online at a site like this; http://www.instantz.net/anime/One_Piece.html

Also, check out an anime called 'Soul Eater' - it's animated really well, has a great style & story and isn't too far in like One Piece, Naruto or Bleach (so far Soul Eater is only 38 episodes in).

For fuck's sake, it's 'Cowboy' bebop - didn't the tongue-lashing you got last time learn you?
