I picked up the Pro Controller and I really like it - especially for MK8. I'm sporadically playing and just acing gold on the early cups (at low levels) but this is definitely the most fun I've personally had with the series since MK64.

I may try some time trials if there's unlockables (or at least counting coins) through there.

Yeah I think when I do get this I'll have to get a pro controller eventually I just can't see myself playing it with the gamepad(when I demo'd it at gamestop when I was waiting for them to open last month I thought man this is awesome especially with tilt controls but I want a regular controller :? just shows even my wii hasn't got much love lately...I swear after this summer it's going to get a bit more love)

You get the gold wheels by beating the staff ghost on all the time trials.

Also, stickers are one per character for getting gold in a GP with them, and one per track for beating the staff ghost, if you want to get those to 90/90.

They're worthwhile practice either way though, as you have to get quite proficient at the track to beat some of them.

What's the point of coins?

Collecting coins unlocks new carts, bikes, tires, and parasails. Parts unlock at random. You get one every 50 coins. After you collect 1,000 then you get an unlock every 100 coins. I think it goes to 2 or 3000 then you don't get an unlock till you hit 10,000 coins.

Also, does picking up a coin give you a small and brief boost? It seems like it does. Am I wrong?

The more you collect, you unlock different parts.

Also, allegedly they make you go faster. I really don't feel it myself though...

Well every once in awhile I have noticed the flame when collecting coins. It seems like a boost every once in awhile when collecting coins...

I definitely can tell the difference with a full 10 coins versus top speed with 1 or 2. Probably best seen when you get the coin from the question box and use it (it increases your coins by 2).
