The big banks can be dicks. My wife was denied not a loan, but a damn credit card at TD Bank. Same "not enough credit history" bullshit.

Right now I'm getting a house and I've much better luck at the local banks.

Lots of local credit unions and such, but you have to have an account there to get a loan.

Right now we're looking at maybe letting a family member temporarily take care of our pets for a while. We can pay a pet deposit and get them back later.

Credit Unions by and large are nowhere near as restrictive as they used to be on who can "be a member"/open an account. There's one local one I know of that used to require you or a family member to be employed at Kodak (which, in the 70's/80's and maybe early 90's, was the largest employer here by a mile)... and at this point it's open to I think anyone who lives in the county or surrounding counties.

So just because they require you to have an account, doesn't necessarily mean you can't get in there. Sometimes a $50 deposit is enough to open an account.

So glad to be home from Mexico. Not the most relaxing vacation ever, but it was a vacation nonetheless. Some ups, lots of downs, but we made the most of it. It'll be a long time before I do any international air travel again.

Nice. Great choice as you may pass those on to your kids one day. They last forever.

Just make sure to hone, and don't sharpen unless a pro does it.


What follows is from an email I sent to a buddy. It's long, but describes last night, which was my "Wife Appreciation Night" but was exactly what I needed, which is getting goofy with my pals:

First game!

Charades with a huge decorated poster board with clues on sticky notes

Second game:

Battle shots! You remember those "Science Project" big tri-fold boards? (I'll send you a pic later). Had those (decorated too!) and big place mats too. It's like the board game Battleship, but the ships are shots of liquor. And the losing team (which was the gals) has to finish the winning team's shots. So much fun.

Third Game:

Russian Egg Roulette

One dozen eggs. 4 raw, 8 hard boiled. Pick an egg (no put backsies) slam it on your head, and hopefully it's hard boiled. My first egg was raw, and of course the egg went all over my head, but also all over my face.

Hilarious and fun.

4th Game:

Water War!

It's the card game "1,2,3, War!" but everyone gets a water gun and two cups of water. High card wins, and the winner has two choices: 3 squirts to anyone from their water gun or to splash someone with their cup of water. On the second deal of the deck, you capture your winning hands and get to pour an entire pitcher of water on whoever.

Shooting your own teammate in the dick with a water gun somehow is more fun than giving girls a wet t.

And the suspension of who may "get it" is so much fun. I honestly haven't laughed so hard since seeing Mitch Hedberg live, and that was probably a decade ago.

Holy fuck was it fun.

I told everyone beforehand "Bring a change of clothes as you'll get dirty and wet".

Game 5! Yup, even more fun!

You remember those big styrofoam planes? I made a design station so everyone could customize their own plane, and we had a distance contest. Emily's first, and perfect, throw made the plane do a great 360 loop and landed right on her left tit. (wet tittie at that)

I've been under tons of stress (aren't we all) and I've got some medical issues that aren't the best, so a night of sheer fun was exactly what I needed.

And if you have friends like mine, or am like one of my friends, you never put your fucking mobile phone down. Can't stand that.

I'm busy as any mofo, but for Fucks sake UNPLUG over the weekend. It's rude as going first at roshambo to go to a party/dinner/anything really, to pay more attention to your phone than the company around you.

Yeah. They're convenient, but if you take the time to visit someone, turn that shit off. It won't kill you.

One of the reasons I made sure we played Water War was to get rid of mobile phones.

Again, I want to emphasize that I love mobile phones, but if you are off the clock and don't have any pressing issues and are visiting a friend/enjoying dinner/etc and are on your mobile device...YOU ARE A FUCKING DICKWAD.

It's probably my biggest pet peeve deez dayz.

And if you're one of those people who are on your phone all the time, when not at work...It is my sincere pleasure to tell you...YOU ARE BEING A DICK.

Yeah, that was one of the selling points to me; the guy at the store described them as forever knives as long as you keep up on honing and bring them in to be sharpened about once a year. The other thing I liked about these vs another Wustof line was the balance of the knives. The Ikon Classic has the balance point in the handle, so they're very easy to hold and move around. The other Wusthof set I tried puts the balance on the blade, so it feels like every blade is a cleaver (or an axe, for that matter).
