I'm fucked. I'm stuck here and I'm stuck like this and there's nothing I can do. This town is a dead end in every possible way.

I was so close to finally being out of here.

I don't know what to even do now.
If you give me specifics I might be able to help.

Drama Queen: I'm down to 154 pounds (I'm about 6'2 tall and have lost almost all of my muscle mass *I was near 210* just weeks ago) and may have pancreatic cancer.

Sucks.

More tests a'coming, but seeing my wife cry is the worst thing ever.

Smile: Hard to follow up on that one eh?

Throwing a HUGE party for my wife tomorrow to turn frowns upside down. Food, drinks, and silly games that will make her smile.

Trying to move to Austin, have a store transfer already set up for July 15th. Was going to get a loan for $2k to cover the moving expenses, I figured that'd cover just about everything I need and would leave me on solid footing for when I got into town, and I was hoping to get into a place as close to July 1st as possible so I'd have time to get settled in before I start the new job. The loan was specifically going to cover deposit and fist month's rent on an apartment, with a bit left over just in case, and my next paycheck was going to pay for moving van rental, gas, etc for getting there.

That's out now. I'm kinda going over things and I might be able to pull this off still, but it'll necessitate moving my move in target date back a bit (I think I'll be okay if I can be in a new place by Jul 10th), intentionally falling behind on a few bills, probably selling a few things, and probably leaving us dirt broke for a while. Even then I'm not super sure it'll work.

A small plus though is that if I can pull it off and actually get there, I'll actually be getting a small pay increase at the new store.

Do you think you could open a line of credit instead of taking out a loan?

If you are currently employed and have decent credit, you could also apply for a new credit card or an increased spending limit.

I agree that a loan from a bank would be optimal (credit card interest is dumb, but when you need it you need it) but you still have options.

Hope this was helpful and keep the questions coming.

So today...

Taking my wife to an authentic Mexican restaurant for dinner where we'll most likely be the only Gringos in attendance, which is just the way I like it. Need to buff up on my Spanish as I haven't spoken the language for a while.

And after that...

Taking some plays from Jimmy Fallon for my "Emily Appreciation Party". Balloons, banners, and regular party fair but here's the games we'll play that I stole from Jimmy:

1) Russian Egg Roulette. Out of a dozen eggs, eight are hard boiled, four are raw. Smack it against your head and hope for the best.

2) Water War: It's the classic card game war, but if you lose you get shot (wherever) with a water gun.

3) Battleshot: Battle ship, but your ship is shots of beer or liquor.

4) Guys vs. Gals Charades. Of course Fallon didn't create the game, but I'm stealing his idea of numbered cards placed on a big ol' board.

Also going to have a "three legged" race where the winners will get a homemade fruit tart.

Yeah, I make fruit tarts. Wannafightaboudit?

:( : Apple's woes. If you're gainfully employed and just trying to rob Peter to pay Paul, and you need money in a jiffy, AND YOU'VE EXHAUSTED EVERYTHING ELSE you could always look into some kind of Payroll Advance loan. Generally these are horrible ideas because the interest is obscene and people don't pay it all back immediately and thus get fucked over for a ton of money...But, I remember using them a few times in grad school and I always paid in full in person on the first day any payment was due. It usually cost me like $50 to borrow $500 for two weeks or so, but it was useful in a pinch. That said, they may not offer you enough for what you need.

:) : First day of summer, and it looks to be beautiful. I have a lot of work to do outside,too...

:( : My desktop (gaming) PC has bit the dust. I'll do some troubleshooting in a bit, but looks like the upgrade is coming sooner rather than later. I'm going to have some stuff up here and on eBay to fund the new build, as I don't want to go much outside the gaming budget for the new stuff.

:) : The Mrs. is making homemade shrimp ravioli and cheese ravioli today

Apple,

Start opening lines of credit so this doesn't happen again.

It's a pain in the ass (and lots data collection, which I fucking hate) but do apply for "so and so store's" credit card. You can get incredible credit scores by being a revolver, within a year.

So what's a revolver? Me. Credit companies hate it, but it will help your credit score, so who cares?

A revolver is someone who racks up credit, pays it on time, and does it again. In short, you know you have the money for your purchase, pay on time so you don't pay interest, rinse and repeat.

Optimally credit companies want you to rack up fees and pay late so they get tons of interest, but you still can increase your credit by paying on time and sticking it to 'em by being responsible with your purchases.

Most retail shops like Best Buy/JC Penny/Staples, etc would LOVE for you to sign up for their line of credit.

Sumtin' to think about.

Noted on both posts (and to Dave). I'm exploring what I can do.

Yeah, I use my credit cards in the same way; I earn points (on cards with no annual fee) which ends up meaning I get free money. And the credit card companies still make a ton of money off the merchant fees.

Agreed all around. Paying in full won't raise your score quite as quickly as paying interest (because as noted, the credit card companies want to make more money off you, and they're kinda the ones who set the credit scores) but they will still raise it, and will show that you're responsible, which is the other half of the equation they're looking for (because charging you interest does not equate to making money off of you if you never pay it back)

And yeah. JC Penney's, Sears, etc etc... damn near any department store will give near anyone a line of credit. It's only useful at that particular store, but hey everyone needs socks or underwear or something that they can charge. They're a vastly underutilized resource for people just starting off with credit.
