I would've definitely paid the difference to have it shipped priority.
Media Mail? A Retron doesn't qualify for that method of shipping. It shouldn't have even been sent that way, the option should have never been available to pick.
Well tracking says it is 'Package Services' which is Media Mail. So, USPS doesn't know he shipped it that way. He sticks in a box, buys a media mail postage label and ships it...

Package Services is a catch-all description, it doesn't necessarily mean media mail. Most likely it's standard/parcel post.

If he did send it media mail that's pretty assy because the USPS has the right to inspect media mail packages meaning it could be sent back to him for insufficient postage and you'll have to wait even longer.

Yeah, I get "Package Services" tracking numbers when I order on eBay all the time. It doesn't necessarily mean Media Mail, more than likely it's standard or even first-class, from my experience. The restrictions on what can be sent Media Mail are pretty strict, and as mentioned already, can be inspected at any time. A package as large as the Retron 5 sent that way would set off a few red flags, I think.

Unless people are trading actual books (as in novels or copies of Racing the Beam and Masters of Doom) or VHS tapes, really nothing that is traded on here qualifies for MM.

A lot of people have been reporting success by ordering from ThinkGeek, so if you're still waiting on Amazon, it might not be a bad idea. However, black preorders are still being starting to ship from September 12.

If any of our European friends are interested in a release date, here's the latest news from Retron Tech -

I may get in trouble for posting this as I am one of the Design Team of Retron 5 and so probably will get in Trouble with Sales and Marketing, but what the Hey. The problem with a UK (And European) Release date is due to CE approval. There is nothing wrong with the system, don't worry. It's about the chip that deals with Bluetooth is from Mediatek, an enormous Taiwanese company. In order to pass CE Approval we need to lock the transmission of the BT chip for a period of time. Getting information out of Mediatek (seems typical of Taiwanese companies) is like getting blood from a stone. We are still trying to get this info but its not looking good so far. Plan B, crazy as it seems is design this chip out which we are currently doing. We can make guesses at European release but as there have been ahem, more than one release date in the past, I am loath to give you an estimate even though I have one in mind. The only thing I can say is this is a major priority and up at the top of my to-do list. Sorry if people think we are ignoring posts, but its hard to juggle time spent solving any problems and time spent explaining them. We are working on an FAQ and hope to get that up soon.

Local store has one for 140 (MSRP?). Is this thing worth it???? I want it but I am having a hard time pulling the trigger. The "save state" thing intrigues me but the price is a little unsettling.

I am loving mine right now. If you want your games to look and sound better and enjoy save states and all that, go for it.

Certain types of PC software are eligible for MM. It's sort of a grey area.
