The joys of living in the middle of nowhere. When I tell people that this type of internet exists, they don't believe me...they seem to think that EVERYONE has access to Cable and DSL. My in-laws only were able to get DSL a little over a year ago and they don't live in a completely unoccupied area.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I moved (am moving) back in with my parents and so I have DishNET satellite internet.fastbilly1 wrote:Ryan what is up with your connection?

It's mostly upsetting because one mile north of our house everybody has 4G LTE and good ole cable internet.BogusMeatFactory wrote:The joys of living in the middle of nowhere. Yep! That is exactly the same situation they had, but with DSL. They lived at a paved road intersecting a dirt road..even though they were on the paved portion, it was still considered a dirt road to the phone company and did not lay a line down. Immediately across the street and next door...high speed internet.RyaNtheSlayA wrote: It's mostly upsetting because one mile north of our house everybody has 4G LTE and good ole cable internet.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
If you are that close to a 4G connection, if you are not in a super deep valley, a cell repeater in the attic should be able to give you a 4g connection. I would make friends with someone nearby with cable internet and just cart my PC over to download/upgrade once a month. And buy everything on GOG...RyaNtheSlayA wrote:It's mostly upsetting because one mile north of our house everybody has 4G LTE and good ole cable internet.
My inlaws have Hughesnet and while it is not that great, it does function. I would never try to game on it though.

I still don't know what's worse dsl or windstream. And yes I do remember dsl and the constant weird noises it made...windstream sometimes feels like dsl without the noise...

League of Legends has penetrated into the college sports system:

Robert Morris University is rolling out a school sponsored varsity team (with the same level of support as other athletic teams, including scholarships) to compete in the Riot Games sponsored Collegiate Championship. This will be the first team that isn't just a school club.

While I'm a big fan of competition, seeing video games get grabbed by the long arm of sports makes me uneasy. Just picture how much worse the community is going to get once this stuff starts working out, ugh.

You are mixing up DSL with dial-up. No weird sounds coming out of DSL.darsparx wrote:I still don't know what's worse dsl or windstream. And yes I do remember dsl and the constant weird noises it made...windstream sometimes feels like dsl without the noise...

I don't know they're all slow as crap and I don't even live in a unpopulated area(heck I'm just 10 miles from one of the biggest cities in the state, and heck might as well say I'm right on the border to the county of it). They sure seem to be taking their sweet time upgrading people it seems....
