This is the best place to pose this question, since the Shmup fans are the ones importing hardware.
Anyone have any luck playing a US Gears of War 2 in a Japanese machine? There's no region lockout, BUT after a few minutes, I'll get a message stating that the disc is dirty or damaged and I have to restart. Very annoying.
New arcade unit, brand new copy of the game, so there's no scratches or scuffs. Why did I think that I'd have a good experience with a 360??

Ouch... um... sorry I guess? Yeah, they aren't the most dependable machines in the world (extremely generous wording). Gears of War 2 worked flawlessly for me at the time. I also had weird disc read errors with Fallout 3, but that was surprisingly enough a software problem, and not with the 360.

Re: Question for Japanese 360 owners
I found another forum where alot of people had the same error. Most of the issues were with an arcade machine, so I'm wondering if the lack of a hard drive is screwing things up. That game is constantly cranking on the DVD drive and saving, so who knows...
But everything else works fine, so no worries. I'll eventually pick up the live kit with the 60GB drive (currently 10 bucks off at Amazon), so we'll see what happens.
Heh, I wouldn't have had to deal with any of this if Sony had made an effort to bring retail shmups to their console.

Re: Question for Japanese 360 owners
Even though I own a Japanese 360 and a U.S. one, I will never try to swap discs over from one console to the next, even though some games may be region free. I own an arcade Japanese 360 and I don't even want to connect it to the internet. The console is exclusively restricted to Jp region games in my book. I'm just too paranoid about things I guess.
I don't play games, I experience them.

Re: Question for Japanese 360 owners
That's the best way to go about things. I just thought I'd hop on the bandwagon and get the gears experience. Owell.
And honestly, there's been no "killer app" for me on the domestic side that's persuaded me to grab a 360 for 3 years now. So I'm not terribly heartbroken.

I assume you're trying to access the Japanese Live Arcade library? I believe you have to create a japanese account, with a japanese mailing address, etc.Sik 07 wrote:if i import a 360 can i play japanese games on xbox live with my uk acount without getting band or would i have to use a jap acount
Update to the original question in the thread- I had my friend bring over his Hard drive, and we had no problems at all playing gears 2 on my Japanese machine. So in my case, it was the lack of a hard drive. Hmm.. if the front of the game says "XBox 360", one would think you could play it on any XBox 360 system.
Of course, everyone gets a hard drive sooner or later, so I guess Epic and Microsoft don't give a rat's ass if it doesn't play in an arcade unit.
Re: Question for Japanese 360 owners
no what i meant was could i play the game on my uk account to get the achievements i didnt know if it was safe or not since you get banned for playing imports on a modded console but i checked mygamercard.net and there seems to be alot of people with jap games on european and us accounts so i guess its safe thanks for the live arcade info i hadent thought of that
Re: Question for Japanese 360 owners
Yeah, what you do is move your Xbox Live Profile to a Memory Unit, and just keep it there. (I use the old 64MB one soley for this purpose) and just switch it between the two 360 units I have. Play the North American software on the domestic one, and the Japanese software on the import one. Then my single gamertag gets all the achievements for games from both regions, and I can login to Xbox live on either one.
