Re: Watch Dogs PC Version Purposefully Imperfect?
I have actually seen a slight FPS improvement after installing this "mod" (it's really just a tweak to code that is already in the game, nothing new is added). But, I do agree that this game is very poorly optimized. Fraps reports my FPS sitting around 30, but it's still choppy as hell. I actually bought the PS4 version as well just so that I can play it smoothly. I was hoping for an awesome PC experience, but forgot that Ubisoft hates PC and never really puts much emphasis in the games it releases on the platform.

It's our fault for not buying as much DLC as Ubi wants us to.Frag Mortuus wrote:but forgot that Ubisoft hates PC and never really puts much emphasis in the games it releases on the platform.

So Ubisoft addressed the hidden files stating,
What are your thoughts? Does Ubisoft work towards creating the most stable and high quality product for PC?
From what I have heard from a lot of people, they have experienced no issues with it, but it is the internet, so don't believe everything you hear! The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game's visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.
Thanks for playing Watch Dogs and stay safe on the mean streets of Chicago.

I installed the mod as soon as I heard about it, and have had no issues so far (though I have not been playing the game too much to be honest) I did notice a huge jump in visuals, and I was able to turn up some settings and keep a solid FPS.
It seems hard to believe that they delayed the game as long as they did, and would not have been able to work out the bugs they claimed were caused by these settings.

Do you feel that maybe they tried to make too ambitious of a game? The delay may be because of said ambitions and they had to revert back to a simpler, cookie-cutter game. I really can't see how such a big delay could have happened, simply because of graphical glitches.jay_red wrote:I installed the mod as soon as I heard about it, and have had no issues so far (though I have not been playing the game too much to be honest) I did notice a huge jump in visuals, and I was able to turn up some settings and keep a solid FPS.
