For everyone who likes downloadable titles

Post by corn619 »

There has been some debates about downloadable vs disc based games on here lately. I personally like disc based games because I own them forever with no company control. But for everyone that prefers downloadable content you might want to watch who you give your business to read this. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3172096 Fuck EA there business ethics suck and need to be put down like Old Yeller. There out of control, between this and Spore no wonder no one likes them.

The last sensible business decision EA made was about 1995. After that then-CEO Larry Probst had a serious brain fart and screwed the company, its employees and its customers over.

EA making bonehead decisions like this don't surprise me in the slightest. I haven't paid a cent for anything they've been involved with for over a decade now, and that won't change until they stop doing stupid things and release half-baked games.

Yeah I know all about their extra fees. Fucking retarded. There's absolutely no reasoning behind it. There's no way one can argue that even downloading a 4GB archive 20 times, will amount to the same cost of a physical case, insert, and disc, with all the shipping fees and retailer cuts. That's just pure greed, banking on user stupidity.

Everyone knows now that EA is a pimple on the face of the video game industry (Ubisoft and Activision would be blackheads or something  ).

What is it with EA and failed attempts at DRM? If they want to see DRM done right, they should take a look at Steam. Securom with Spore was one of the most stupid concepts ever ('hey why don't we counter pirates by punishing the honest buyers, meanwhile pirates have access to a clean version of Spore with no securom and no drawbacks at all, giving them an even BIGGER incentive to pirate our game? GENIUS!'). Spore didn't end up being the most pirated game in history for no reason.

Also you know what I want to see more of? Rather than trying to punish the pirates, why not rewad the honest buyers? Include a figurine or some other kind of physical merchandise with the game. Fans love that stuff.

Remember when EA was going to modify secuROM to work just like Steam? Have an internet connection and you can install it as many times as you like no problem? And how the internet cried fowl that they didn't want to be tied to an internet connection and forced them to go back to limited number of installs? And how then everyone complained because Steam's method was superior and why couldn't EA be more like that?

Yeah, most people complaining lost the moral high ground regarding EA's use of DRM after that.

Regarding these fees, so long as they were stated up front (and they will have been, because it would be illegal not to) then there's nothing anybody can complain about. An informed consumer can say "I don't like EAs methods and shall get my downloads from elsewhere", but it doesn't make EA any more evil than you were told they were before.
