Hello! First time user here; love the site!
I recently picked up a Sony PVM-20M2U for connecting retro consoles to RGB. Overall the monitor has an excellent picture and perfect geometry except for one gripe; the color red is showing up as a shade of orange. It's not severe, but it's noticeable enough especially with games that have blood like Mortal Kombat. I downloaded the 240p test suite for Sega Genesis and verified the problem with the color bars test. I've tried adjusting the color in the menu, but it has no effect. Is there a way to internally adjust the colors of a PVM? Or maybe the components need to be cleaned? What else could I try? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Help with Sony PVM color problem
Re: Help with Sony PVM color problem
It is possible to adjust the color of most PVMs internally. ALWAYS BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN OPENING UP A CRT MONITOR. THE DANGER OF SHOCK OR ELECTROCUTION IS VERY REAL IF YOU TOUCH THE WRONG THING.
This video shows PVMs being calibrated with that method:
Here is a link to the service manual which should tell you what to adjust.

That said, I would try adjusting the color through the service menu (detailed in the link above) if you haven't tried that already.

Re: Help with Sony PVM color problem
Thanks for the response! Yes, I know I have to be extremely careful with these. I learned that the hard way many years ago. I will try to clean the PCBs and look for some pot adjustments inside the unit. The service manual should be informative too. Thanks again.
