I'm going to be that guy and hope for all of the GBA Mega Man Battle Network games to be given the same treatment as the Zero Collection if Nintendo does buy em out. I liked the series a lot to be honest even if they were the same with subtle tweaks to the formula.
Re: Capcom is for Sale!
I'm worried about who will go for it. But it shall hopefully be for the best. The last several Resident Evil games should not have existed, at all. There comes a time when you need to let go and let things retain some glory, instead of continually burying it.
It pains me greatly, as I was someone who grew up idolizing Megaman above Mario and Sonic. Capcom up through the PS2 era, were the consistent seal of awesome quality to me. In the days before the internet, I would buy or try out games based off the Capcom logo alone because I knew I was getting something amazing and that never failed.
They lost themselves somewhere along the lines into the PS3/360 era, tried way too hard to Westernize things, outsourced too much, and their key staff started dropping out left and right. No matter how vocal the fans got, they simply never had the windows open nor made any effort to do anything about it.
They easily had it coming with how they handled things over the last several years, as just about everyone else has already mentioned.
Give Nintendo Megaman, and I'll be happy.
Or you know, maybe Platinum Games or Tango Gameworks can buy them out.

It could be said that Mikami reinvented Capcom, and also eventually destroyed them.
Mikami gave Capcom their 1st 3D era hit with Resident Evil in 1996, and in 2005 he reinvented his own genre and Capcom have tried to match it ever since. They haven't been able to do it.
As far as Westernizing things, that started with Mikami, too. All the RE games were influenced by American zombie movies, and American horror movies in general. Mikami's a big fan of all that stuff.

They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

Namco and Capcom would make a better couple.lisalover1 wrote:I always thought Konami and Capcom would make a cute couple. ^_^
They have always seemed to be rivals, and they have similarly-themed game libraries. However, on a related note, doesn't anyone else find it odd that Konami never made their own fighting game series?
Granted, I don't see any company taking over another company and anything good coming out of it, but Namco is about the only company I see fitting.
Except Valve. But that'll never happen.

Konami kinda had a fighting game series... in the sense that there's three different versions of TMNT: Tournament Fighters that are completely and utterly different from each other.
They also made Martial Champion, which has pretty much been completely forgotten about despite it looking pretty nice. Only time I've ever seen this game referenced is in KOFXIII, where Yuri's 10th color for her alt costume is directly based on the heroine of this game.

I would love to still get excited to see the Capcom logo light up an intro screen like I used to, but it just hasn't been as much of a label I can trust in recent years outside of Street Fighter IV.
I think things actually started to get weird for them in the PS2 era when they took lots of chances, which occasionally paid off with critical success (Okami, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, Killer 7, Haunting Ground) and/or financial success (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4, Onimusha, Monster Hunter), but most often was mired by lots of mediocrity and unfulfilled potential (Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance, Dino Stalker, Crimson Tears, Auto Modellista, Devil Kings, Chaos Legion, Darkwatch). I say that with love, because it was a very fun time to be a Capcom fan and to see them take risks, but they also failed to turn major profits on those promising looking games that didn't live up to their publisher's reputation.
Actually, they were still doing too many bland Street Fighter spinoffs back then, even though we mostly complain about bland Resident Evil and Devil May Cry spinoffs now, along with unnecessary sequels to Lost Planet. And present day Capcom has released a few interesting failures/mild succeses such as Dark Void, Bionic Commando, Asura's Wrath, Dragon's Dogma, and Remember Me.

I forgot about that one; for some reason, I always thought they published those games instead of developing them.Hobie-wan wrote:They did, way ahead of the curve.lisalover1 wrote:However, on a related note, doesn't anyone else find it odd that Konami never made their own fighting game series?

The president of Koei Tecmo resigned due to hemorrhaging money. They're probably in just as easy a position to get bought out themselves, especially if they blow what they do have on Capcom (if it's enough). A buyout would cripple them.Sano wrote:What about Tecmo as a potential buyer?
