Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
You are only four hours, and I have random arcade things I could add in to some sort of trade...
My wife and I started playing with the idea of making mini cabs. Think a slightly shorter and thinner wooden Capcom Mini Cute. They would be one player cabs with 15inch CRTs (since we trip over 15inch CRTs at EVERY thrift store) with controls for one game type. So a smaller Centipede cabinet with a trackball, that also plays Missile Command, Millipede, Horse Shoes, Crystal Castles, and Marble Madness. Mostly since we discovered through some optical tricks we can replicate side art pretty well.

those sound awesome. i might be getting another surplus of 8"-20" PVMs soon, if those interest you for a project like that.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
PVMs are too advanced, we like the KISS method. Though I could make the frame so it fits a PVM if needed. Really I was just trying to think about a way to make money with the CRT monitors I always run into, often for free. And this was the best idea. Wood, a Raspberry Pi, two pushbuttons, a Ms Pacman/Galaga stick, an encoder/controller, an HDMI to VGA adapter, and a cheapo speaker set and for about $200 before painting I could make arcade cabinets.
The thing is if we do not get the shopsmith, we are dead in the water on the project for a few years.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
welp,
they came back saying they'd like $800 for both of them. i don't think that's anywhere close to fair considering according to them "the Street Fighter turns on but nothing shows up on the screen" which to me says board issue or monitor issue, depending on if there is sound. and i don't know what the issue is with the NG cab, as they said the controls are "just kinda wonky"
i'm gonna go over there and take a look at them tonight after work. i'll take pics and report back. these guys are my friends so i don't want them thinking that i'm trying to screw them, but there's no way i would want to drop $800 on two more cabs right now, especially if they have issues.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
offer them $10 for the MVS carts inside, and sell me Pulstar for $20
Sounds like the Street Fighter board might have suicided, is it just a blank color screen? or is the monitor just black?

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
okay, i went to check these out, and whooooooooa buddy are they pretty gnarly.
the SF cab is Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers in what appears to be a conversion of some sort with generic capcom stickers on the sides, a SSFII overlay and a decent marquee. the monitor flickers when the power is turned on, the marquee lights up, and the A board fan spins, but nothing else happens. black screen, no sound. there appears to be a battery compartment with 3 AA batteries hanging off the back of the board (which is mounted to the side of the cab). so it's kind of a mess.
the neo geo cab is a 4-slot cab with a 2-slot board inside of it, and the monitor has been replaced with some sort of i/o board and a gutted Zenith TV. it looked pretty hilarious. i should have taken pictures. it's also missing a button and several of the buttons have no play at all or stick. the carts included are Puzzle Bobble and Blazing Star (sorry, not Pulstar, i saw "star" when i was there and incorrectly assumed). Blazing Star looks legit as far as my friend could tell but puzzle bobble looked like it had eproms in it so he wasn't sure. it "works" but it's a total mess.
i offered them $200 in their current shape and told 'em i'd pick them up saturday if they wanted to do that. they're pretty motivated on getting them out of there so i think i'll have a couple of fun projects here soon.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
There are (3) versions of SSF II, one is common ($60), 2 are rarer ($225+).
You'll need a torx 20 bit to open up that board - you may want to open it in front of them - if the battery has leaked it may have fried the board. If not, you'll be good to go - even if the battery died you can have it phoenixed.
Bust a Move is a really common boot, but even the originals look "booty" having stock EPROMS. http://www.mvs-scans.com/index.php/Bust-A-Move
Blazing Star is a $60 cart. So with the motherboards for both and 3 games, $200 is fair for those bits alone - if you can salvage the cabs or pull any other parts you'll be coming out ahead.
