Most of the alterations to Tomb Raider in the definitive edition ... I would not consider enhancements. The only thing that actually looks better is the lighting and particle systems (And the lighting only really looks better with spotlights, normal lighting looks very overblown). I'm not a fan of the new Lara model, I think they made her look like an alien. It's up to taste, but I think it would be a mistake to place the Definitive Edition above the PC version when it comes to graphics. I feel like in a lot of ways the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is the epitome of what's wrong with a lot of the industry.
I'd be totally down for a Final Fantasy IX HD remake.

Can't comment on the other stuff in your post, but this ^ I totally agree with.Cronozilla wrote:I'm not a fan of the new Lara model, I think they made her look like an alien.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

This is surely a hard comment to make.Phades wrote:Having seen both, the definitive edition on the PS4/XB1 actually are superior to the original PC version.isiolia wrote:Usually they're just called "the PC version".Phades wrote: Treatments akin to Tomb Raider definitive edition need to happen more often.![]()
In general, I like HD remakes. I've swapped out most of the relevant PS2 games for HD collections on 360 or PS3.
Was the PC version you played running at 1440P?, was it running at a constant 60FPS? Was everything on the highest setting, was Anti-Aliasing forced through the control panel to beef it up, was tessellation enabled?
The open nature of gaming on a PC means that your statement is really hard to be definitive. When you look at comparison screenshots of people running with decent PC's and the ultimate settings, it is hard to pick a clear winner.

Ok, so we now are seeing a lot of games scheduled for re-release on the current gen systems. Over the past month or so we have seen announcements and leaks for GTA V, Metro Redux, and I saw a post somewhere that listed a Sleeping Dogs HD remaster may be in the works.
I know the argument is that some folks didn't buy their next gen system just to play last gen games, but I'm stoked. I didn't play any of those games and I can't wait to see them all remastered running on my PS4.
Have you all heard of any others that I may have missed?

This is a bit different so I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the fence. But I guess I have enough of a backlog and games planned to hit up, that I could probably keep waiting until I get a PS4 to get around to these superior ports.Frag Mortuus wrote:Ok, so we now are seeing a lot of games scheduled for re-release on the current gen systems. Na, I love HD remakes myself.. though the only 1 I really wanted was FFX-X2. Love it!

This is why, in the right hands, PC screenshots can look better than real life.emwearz wrote:This is surely a hard comment to make.Phades wrote:Having seen both, the definitive edition on the PS4/XB1 actually are superior to the original PC version.isiolia wrote:

Re: Am I The Only Sucker For An HD Remake?
Just to bring this thread back to life a month later: how do you guys feel about HD remakes of HD games?
With The Last of Us Remastered, GTA V (being billed as a huge refinement in the graphical department even for the traditional PC port), and Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, you do see it being a long term plan or a short term fad because of the close proximity of the games original release to the release of the new consoles?
I feel that the original releases were fine the way they were. Other than minor graphical improvements it wouldn't add a significant amount of content. Patches downloaded to the console would fix any bugs as compared to a game from 10 years ago where slip streaming bug fixes were not possible or not widespread. "HD-ing" said game from 10+ years ago with high res textures and upping output from SD to HD on top of bug fixes would be more beneficial I think.
