Game of Thrones: New HBO Series
Re: Game of Thrones: New HBO Series
I just realized that episodes 8 and later are being released so I am not reading any further in this thread to avoid spoilers. So any one who replied to me I am not ignoring you on purpose

Re: Game of Thrones: New HBO Series
Well, that's that for another year. I was a bit peeved with some of the deviations last week not out of fanboyism for the books but rather because they were lazy ways to elicit an undeserved emotional response from the audience. This week things were better even if the ending was rushed. It is more obvious in the show than in the books that when certain characters get bumped off it drains the series of its more interesting characters (and better actors). Still the best thing on TV, even if I'm not the best person to judge that. It and the football are pretty much the only thing I watch.

When a friend asked if he should watch the show after season 1, I told him not to. It is very clear that this story will only end in at least 7 seasons if not more. You will only be waiting for a full year to complete the story... Wait for it to come all out and then watch it all. No yearly waits... for the time being you can watch other shows.Sload Soap wrote:Well, that's that for another year.
Of course, we all gave in, we couldn't resist the temptation...
When you think about it, a year is a very very very long time to complete a show especially when its a connected story (unlike stuff like Desperate Housewives), you only get 10 episodes a year. If you watch 2 episodes per day thats only 5 days a year. Yet I understand that it takes a full year to make 10 good episodes.

So despite my avatar, I've not really watched this yet (what can I say, I'm a fan of Sean Bean and the books.) Wife and I started a couple of days ago and we're up to S1E6 so:
Enjoying it quite a bit as I expected, just didn't really have the time to watch it until now. Obviously I remember a lot of the high points from the books, but some of it will still be a shock as I either don't remember it or they've changed it for TV. Hope to follow along with your guys revelations here without spoiling it for myself too much and also I hope to catch up before the start of next season! Wish me luck.

Re: Game of Thrones: New HBO Series
Haven't actually read the books (the ones I own aren't in chronological order), but I have heard from book readers that the show has added some interesting stuff not present in the books. A recent episode revealed something that the books apparently never explained. Also, the season finale last Sunday had a pretty epic dual between two central characters that I have heard was also not in the books.Stark wrote:So despite my avatar, I've not really watched this yet (what can I say, I'm a fan of Sean Bean and the books.) EDIT: I believed the makers of the show have actually been told how the story ends by George R R Martin, which makes whatever stuff they put in the show that's not in the books even more interesting because they're able to add that stuff knowing exactly where the book story is heading.

I've heard some characters that have been added to the show are possibly going to make an appearance in the books too, kind of fun to have it go both ways!
