WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I read somewhere that this system supports translation patches. Has anyone tried this yet? I don't own any japanese famicom carts so I can't test it yet.

They're black and white, but even so the quality is amazing. Revenge of the Gator (the only game I tested) looks really sharp.

I was tempted to put "as of this post". I should have

As far as I know, that's something that may have been mentioned earlier this year, but no confirmation either way as to this feature being included in the current Retron 5 or not.

I have tested several repro Nes, Snes, and Mega Drive games and they all work fine.

So I guess since John got one I should get one too so we can chat about them on the podcast.
Is MSRP still $100? If so, where should I look to pick one up? Color doesn't really matter (though I prefer black).
Anyone looking to sell a used one already?

MSRP is $140 now, which is why I jumped on the 100

Ah. I don't think I can see myself shelling out $140 at this point for it. $100 is pushing it for something that basically does what I can already do better with discrete systems.
Well, if anyone sees a deal like John got, let me know

That would be great, I'd love to hear thoughts on the podcast eventually.
The price jumped to $140 during the delays we had this year, due to the cost to build being higher as well as the new features they added between November and April.
Amazon was charging $140, Newegg was up to $179 I believe, and the only way you can get that at $100 is to find a deal like John did at this point

I'm still enjoying it and have encountered absolutely no issues. There have been a few more reports of input lag, but I'll tell you I have not come across any. I played Xexyz, Super Buster Bros. (a game that would be affected by input lag), and Advance Wars last night (I can write the save back to that cartridge, it uses flash memory!), and had a good time.

I ordered one on Amazon for $140 last night. I felt guilty so I booted up my modded oXBOX and it looked perfect with the component cables. So until I can find a better deal, I canceled my order. I will still be waiting for a deal and getting one.
Now I need a way to use the original controllers on the oXBOX.

News on the tech front --
Tanooki on the NintendoAge forums reports a new firmware coming out shortly -- among the fixes, certain NES games that had issues will work now such as Double Dragon, Arkanoid, and Donkey Kong Classics. Also, all the lock on stuff with Sonic & Knuckles should be ironed out now too.
They also are going to address the GBA EEPROM save back to cartridge issue in the near future! Once that's fixed, I'll have no more issues with that
