Y'know what's funny - I haven't heard anyone say anything positive about Nickelback in years... And yet they're still selling records. Hmmmmmmm.

I wish people would be honest about their musical likes and dislikes (or likes and dislikes in general), but being "the cool guy", even on the internet, is way too important, apparently.

(Note: Not saying anyone here is being dishonest about their likes and dislikes, but I'll bet there are more than a few people who hate on Nickelback while rocking out to their latest album)
Nickleback are good at what they do, which is to create catchy, derivative, radio-friendly songs that have widespread appeal to people who don't care much for musicianship, lyricism, or artistry.

And really, that's fine: plenty of artists/groups have done this historically and will do so in the future to great profits and popularity. But, for people who are "into" music and know genre histories, major and minor figures, collect and listen to music compulsively, play instruments or understand musical talent, a Nickelback-style approach to music will always be quite grating to both listen to and think about.

I haven't read this thread much the past week, so I need to catch up a bit.

Digital privacy and all that.

Yes. All that.
Fun anecdote: This week someone posted a bunch of photos of me on the internet. I PM'ed her, and told her to take them down because that's creepy. She had the audacity to call me rude.

In regards to all the CAKE comments: I love this band too much to properly explain. Fashion nugget is my single favorite album. Let me say that I am deeply jealous of Blu for attending a CAKE concert.

I feel like Nickelback is the modern equivalent of John Mellancamp or Tom Petty. The music sounds like contrived paint-by-numbers moderate rock that a record executive thought up while in a committee meeting.

Not to rant, but I will...

Maybe I take things too seriously, or maybe I'm ahead of the curve. Time will tell.

But in this baby obsessed culture I don't think parents and people think about the future repercussions of their online photo sharing/posting. That goes for adults as well.

True, I've posted a picture of me with friends with a table full of beers. Will that come back to bite in me in the arse? Maybe, maybe not. And I understand parents are proud of their children and their silly moments captured by camera, but no doubt cyber bullying is a thing and I wish parents would understand that when their 5 year old gets to be a teenager, the kid can be googled, and those images will more than likely show up. That just gives turds more ammunition.

Not saying don't post pics of your baby, but simply to be mindful of what you post when your kid is a kid. And yeah, it is "YOUR KID", but have the respect to ask "mind if I post this on the Internet for the entire world to see?".

Hopefully I'm totally off base on this and pics won't come back to haunt kids and teens, but I do worry.

I was going to say, the moment you put up a picture of yourself on the internet, you open yourself to criticism. The very first moment I turned on my web cam for a video game stream, people picked apart my surroundings...they weren't mean about it, but it made me feel incredibly vulnerable...it was a bit scary.

While I am not trying to deny you felt vulnerable and scared by any means, I dont really understand how or why you felt that way. Criticisms of cleanliness or choice of furniture decorations and such?

I also think the pics of baby stuff isnt a big deal. If we have to grow up fearing how we looked as small children, which everyone does the same stuff at that age, something is wrong. Just follow the rule of not posting ang illegal or incriminating activity and you should be ok.

Oh I got over it, it wasn't a big deal, but the internet has trained people to be very observant of what is going on. I myself am guilty of it some times. Someone posts a picture and I see everything but the focus of the picture...not to be critical or anything, but just that that is what I see.

As a general rule I don't post anything that's going to be obviously embarrassing in the future about myself or my family and friends. Also, my son already at 4 asks me to put certain pictures of him/us on Facebook and he likes to read comments and see who "likes" them, so I don't see the big deal. He'll also sometimes tell me not to put a picture up. I think, once they understand the concept of social media, including them in the discussion is the right thing to do.

A bigger problem is an overload of kid/baby pictures, which is annoying as hell. Not everything your kid does and says is cute or worthy of posting...

Holy crap, they're everywhere!

But seriously, that's annoying if you asked and she balked.
