Nickleback are good at what they do, which is to create catchy, derivative, radio-friendly songs that have widespread appeal to people who don't care much for musicianship, lyricism, or artistry.catnip wrote:Y'know what's funny - I haven't heard anyone say anything positive about Nickelback in years... And yet they're still selling records. I wish people would be honest about their musical likes and dislikes (or likes and dislikes in general), but being "the cool guy", even on the internet, is way too important, apparently.
(Note: Not saying anyone here is being dishonest about their likes and dislikes, but I'll bet there are more than a few people who hate on Nickelback while rocking out to their latest album)
And really, that's fine: plenty of artists/groups have done this historically and will do so in the future to great profits and popularity. But, for people who are "into" music and know genre histories, major and minor figures, collect and listen to music compulsively, play instruments or understand musical talent, a Nickelback-style approach to music will always be quite grating to both listen to and think about.
