my introduction to cyberpunk was the sega genesis version of shadowrun, which is still one of my favorite things ever, and i always jump at the chance to say things like "chummer" and "slot off, frag face!"
This was my exact sentiment. My first foray into cyberpunk was the Sega Genesis' Shadowrun. I was amazed by the world and even more amazed by the hacking game, which was far more entertaining than the actual game.

I wanted to bring up also, what is it about cyberpunk that interests us. In all honesty, I can not say that I would wish for a cyberpunk world, as the idea of having technology implanted in my brain and or other vital organs is a frightening concept to me personally, there is still a draw. A lot of times, cyberpunk crosses into dystopia and that alone is a harrowing concept, but still I love it!

A great Cyberpunk game that many may have heard me rant about is the awesome Text Based Adventure Game, A Mind Forever Voyaging. You play a sentient computer program set to run through a simulation of society affected by drastic political policies that are currently being presented. It is thought provoking and truly interesting, as there are no real puzzles except in the final moments of the game.

I'll talk about my two most recent experiences with cyberpunk:

1) I finally watched Bladerunner a couple months ago. I never watched it despite me hearing that lots of games I've played took inspiration from it. It was good but a little weird. I also watched Dredd. Great movie!

2) Deus Ex: Human Revolution. So much gold! I love this game and play it from time to time. Such topics like augmentation and big corporate presence are represented here. So. Much. Gold.

This thread made me think of The Fifth Element, Demolition Man, Idiocracy, Ghost in the Shell, and Lain.

... and now I want to watch them all.
